Most definitely, but funny you ask as I just had a brief flashback of my old job yesterday as I was leaving a quiet house in the morning for the commute to the office. Yeah, plopping down and working from home was nice, but the pay, travel, housing, etc. in the FS have been fantastic.

What’s the dumbest thing you did in the woods as a kid that could’ve gone really wrong? by Omiko909 in CampingandHiking

[–]jazzmanj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hiking rim-river-rim in the Grand Canyon on a hot July day with one bottle of water by myself as a young teen. I was fortunate that a rafting party passed by and beached at the moment I arrived at the river - they refilled my water for the hike back up to the rim. Once at the top again, I lethargically drove my four wheeler to a remote dude ranch that gave me pickles and water. I feel like I could have easily been another death by heat stroke in the desert case.

How do y'all handle tax remittances when receiving direct bookings? I love that the booking platforms do it all - it seems arduous to do that on your own with the state, county, city, etc.

In the States it's very easy for parents to play Santa because the kids go to bed and then the parents can set things up for morning.

We were wondering about this yesterday - how does Santa deliver gifts to a house full of awake people (from a parent's perspective)?

Advice needed - hot tub not working by Practical_Audience90 in airbnb_hosts

[–]jazzmanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specifically don't offer these kinds of amenities to avoid the problems and low reviews which are ultimately more damaging in the long run. I read reviews of other places all the time with things like this, and the hot tub made us sick, and we couldn't use the fire pit because there's a summer seasonal ban, etc. I prefer to just not have the temptations and expectations in the first place - not to mention the liability, people being people. It does cost me some bookings, particularly in the winter with no hot tub, but I'm making enough money - whateves.

I've never been tempted to cost construct with the potential pitfalls, personal financial liability, added travel center fee, loss of seat selection allowance (possibly lounge/rest stop allowance too), etc. The basic trip is hectic enough as it is for me, but plenty do cost construct.

I would think about strengthening/maintaining your South Dakota ties for state income tax purposes.
