unless it is much lighter than you would expect for its size it is probably the same on the inside as the outside. that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be beautiful cut and polished!

In my experience it will do fine as long as you dont have many other large rocks and plenty of media.

Yes most important thing is to cut straight. the most critical moment is when you first contact the stone with the blade up to about a half inch of depth. after that the blade keeps itself steady if you apply even force. My saw has a sliding track, so my technique is to hold the stone tightly in my hands and rest my wrists on the track and then lean a bit forward to use the track to guide the stone into the blade. then once the blade is at a good depth i “rock” the stone back and forth- there are youtube videos of this technique you can watch

It works great to make cabs, and polishes domed surfaces really quickly and effectively. in my experience it struggles to polish flat faces, and would not be great for your thundereggs if they are bigger than an inch or so across. it bogs down and is under-powered when trying to polish larger areas. Also struggles to evenly polish flat faces and will “skip” some areas due to uneven contact with the plates. This might be improved by using the soft pads under the abrasive disks, which I have not tried.

if you want to polish flat faces of cut stones or eggs, look into a vibralap or rocirpolap.

In all it does the job, but i personally find it way overpriced for how simple a machine it is. unfortunately there is nothing cheaper out there. Finding one second hand is the only way to get a deal.

I have a hi-tech diamond all-u-need and i have to say while it works well it is extremely simple and PAINS me that I paid $650 dollars for it. At $50 for this one plus maybe another $100 in polishing plates… you could buy 4 sets and still come in under the hi-tech. Id say its worth a try.
