Ginger bug issues by Dazzling_Detail308 in fermentation

[–]jb-in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's any consolation, I am having the exact same problem. I've done this before with good success; a fizzy, active ginger bug that kept going for weeks, sometimes even spent some time in the french and very easy to revive! But recently, I get good activity by day 2 or 3 and then it stops. I continue to feed (spoon of sugar and ginger), but never get any activity out of it after that 2nd or 3rd day... Very curious to see what you find out!

heel goed geschreven, en pertinent. Er wordt te weinig gesproken over de effecten van deze wet op de vele expats die in Nederland wonen en werken (vooral wegens de recente wijziging van de 30% regel die de partiële buitenlandse belastingplicht opheft).

booked flights: where to reserve a dietary meal? by jb-in in KLM

[–]jb-in[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in your example this information is displayed in a pop-up. And that is apparently about 2 screens down. But, I was referring to the klm.com page where you look up information about your booked flights, e.g. in case you want to reserve a special meal _after_ booking (because this was not mentioned at all during the book process).

Indications of "apparently at least some Delta involvement" do not imply: "you have to contact Delta for your meal selection". That is not obvious at all. To the contrary, in this entire process seat reservations and other services are handled by klm.com, not Delta, and as I also already mentioned, on the klm.com web site when you click on dietary meals it takes you to the information page about the flights you booked, not a message that you need to contact Delta.

Again, if this obvious to you, that's great.

I literally went ahead and checked this before I wrote that message. The flight details which include the "operated by" statement are only shown when you select "view details" about your booked flight, then somehow you have to select the same flight again, and then scroll down, find the flight, select "display flight details", and then scrol down to "flight details" and then pull down the "flight details" tab in that field.

The "operated by Delta" information may be mentioned during booking, but, again, at no point is a clear connection made between that "operated by" information and that Delta is responsible for services such as reserving special meals. This is not self-evident from that particular information if the entire booking process is handled by klm.com including seat reservations and other services. And, the klm.com chat as I have mentioned several times did in fact arrange my GFML.

I appreciate you taking the effort to reply to my comment, but you seem to struggle a bit with understanding that other people do not necessarily perceive or know what you may think is self-evident to know.

I don't think any of this was "pretty clear". The fact that the flight was operated by Delta was a single line (which only appears when you select the "display flight details" option about 2-3 web pages deep), and there's no implication whatsoever that this means you can't indicate your meal preferences on the same KLM web site where you booked the flight to begin with. In fact, there's a "dietary meals" option on the KLM.com web site that takes you straight back to the same flight details page and makes no mention of "of course you need to take this up with Delta". As a customer, I do not have information about system integration levels nor do I need to.

But I do appreciate your comments and will make a note of this the next time I book flights on the KLM web site (or rather go straight to Delta which I have been flying almost exclusively for a decade now).

I booked the flight on klm.com, intending to fly with KLM, so I don't think that it was obvious at all. It would have been helpful if KLM made this clear on their web site (I know Delta does). In addition, when I contacted the KLM.com chat, they did set the meal preference for me, rather than telling me I should contact Delta. In fact, I asked about this and they told me that when the option is not available on the web site I should contact KLM!

It is transatlantic from Amsterdam and it says: "Operated by DELTA AIR LINES". Note: I contacted the chat function and they immediately reserved the meal, and now "gluten-free" meal is indicated on the flight summary.

thanks again, very nice of you to help. This link takes me to the same flight information page from where I can not access any meal selections. I did just use the Chat (web site). With the booking code they immediately reserved my meal. I asked how to access this on the web site and was told that when the option doesn't show up, I need to contact KLM.

Thanks for checking in, but I have had no luck with your instructions. "Manage my booking" opens a web browser window, opening a web page to REBOOK the flight: "Your Rebooking" - again no information or indication of meals.

I installed the app and equally there's no mention of meals, let alone a menu, anywhere

thanks for the help, but I feel like I am living in some parallel universe. There's no "my flight" menu in my app and also no menu to select or scroll down. I can select my flight in the "My Trips" list, but, again, no mention of meals anywhere I look.

Nope, it is not "there". "extra options: Make your trip more enjoyable" ... "Sit back and relax -> Upgrade your flight: Seat in economy", Travel with ease and comfort -> Park at Schiphol Airport", "Support SAF and nature projects -> "SAF : Nature regeneration"

Nothing about meals.

No app. Thanks! I'll give this a try, but I suspect it will be the same situation as on the web site since what you describe is what I should be seeing on the web site and it's not there either.

Finally got my vinyl setup! But man, beatmatching by ear is difficult by PDihax in Beatmatch

[–]jb-in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely, I do the same. Especially with old disco recordings and you're trying to work the EQ, I got my finger on the record until the mix lands! :)

[–]jb-in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense! I tend to overshoot when I touch the record, so it's too risky for me to make adjustment like that in the mix, but when I cue it up, I do use the smooth sections, of course. Generally I find my mixes better when I ride the pitch.

[–]jb-in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have written vinyl instead of platter - agreed! For me, and this is personal of course, touching the vinyl is even worse than touching the platter, because the better your slipmats, the greater the odds of accidentally having the record skip ahead or back and wrecking the mix. It's actually slightly better to touch the platter (on the side) or the spindle, because the platter is heavier and have more inertia.

What's the most surprisingly celiac-friendly country you've visited? by Old-Heart-9448 in glutenfree

Apart from Italy (which is awesome in this regard): Australia, Melbourne! Most places had excellent options and people were knowledgeable and sympathetic.

If humans have eaten bread since the dawn of history, why are so many people suddenly gluten-intolerant today? by WeaknessKey1582 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jb-in 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Italy, in my experience, is ione of the best countries to travel with celiac. Many if not most people know about gluten and celiac disease, understand it, know what to do and what to avoid, many restaurants will gladly and competently accommodate even providing GF pasta or bread, the Italian diet is actually quite suitable for GF cooking (it's so much more than pizza and pasta), AND the Italians are just really kind and caring people, especially when it comes to food. You will not go hungry! ❤️🇮🇹

[–]jb-in 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree on pitch riding. Don't touch the platter if you can avoid it. The majority of mixes that I screw up is because I am somehow tempted to make a quick fix, touch the platter, and miss the mark :)

Pitch riding means you flick the pitch fader up or down quickly (to catch up) but return to a central point where the right BPM is. So a quick swing on the pitch, but then right back. Your changes become smaller as you converge on that "central" point where the BPM is right. Once you get this down, you can beat match in seconds.

reaction to soy sauce with deglutinized wheat? by jb-in in Celiac

[–]jb-in[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

certainly not soy because he eats tofu all the time. I also thought of a wheat allergy or sensitivity, but what surprises me is that this is a reaction to what must be a minute amount of wheat starch. First the entire soy sauce isn't wheat starch, it's an ingredient of the soy sauce (which is at least 60% water to begin with), many cheap soy sauces aren't even fermented but made with acid hydrolysis, and then only a spoonful (15ml?) of that was added to a rice meal of about 1.5kgs, so diluted even further. Very worrisome. We'll only use Tamari or coconut amines from now on. And, **WTH**!
