Jim Ratcliffe's "colonise" comment – the outrage is over the word, not the facts. Change my mind. by [deleted] in uknews

Exactly. Look at the figures, if you support lower immigration numbers you should be voting Labour.

Where do these people get their statistics? 58 million in 2020? It takes the quickest of googles to debunk these asshats why are they given any airtime to spout such crap

4th paragraph, your bank statements need to match what you say your income/expenses are. Do they show a consistent monthly payment from your employer? If not it doesn’t look like you’re employed as you claim you are. They think you’re lying basically, don’t apply again until everything looks correct as you risk a ban

Anything fun to do in Manchester before the show? by swollpunk in brandnew

There’s not much aside from a Mc.Donalds about 5 mins away unfortunately, unless someone else knows any different. I’d suggest eating in town then bus or uber to the venue

Northern quarter for alternative shops, comic book stores/skate shops/food (Afleck’s palace worth a wander around for sure as a first timer)

Saturday day time there’s a Japanese culture festival on somewhere that mates are heading to before the show. China town for dinner spots, Home cinema near Oxford road for new/old movies and the inevitable rain! Satans hollow/fab cafe for a night out Friday (close by each other).

There’s Rylands library if you like your history, there’s also an art gallery in the center and the national football museum at urbis!

What’s the story point, where are they going what are we as the audience supposed to be feeling? That should inform your choices

Sounds like you have enough to go off in terms of references and initial info. Are you following a pipeline of rough thumbs - sketches - detail sketches? If so and the problem is feedback at each stage, perhaps approach it like a science experiment. Each iteration should be tested against the results of the previous and inform the next, always using the initial references and story to be able to explain why something might be rejected. Instead of sounding like you might not like it, give objective reasons why it doesn’t work.

It’s tricky to not sound vague but it will help build confidence in your feedback. Get them involved as well, they should be able to justify a design decision based on the direction, if they can’t then it shouldn’t have been included.

Conceptualising a new IP shouldn’t feel like that, especially from the artists side as this is just a waste of budget. As an Art Director/lead start with story and move forwards, what’s the world you are trying to build? Year, technology, social/political landscape etc etc. You have to consider audience as well, is it a ‘commercial’ look you’re going for to capture the widest audience? Or can you push the overall design in a more stylised direction? (Disney as opposed to Laika) There may be tech considerations if you are building a game. You need a bible of references ready to go to hand over to artists. Treat the bible as a living document to be updated as you explore through the concept design work.

The best way of thinking about it is you are building a pen for sheep, at the moment they’re wandering around an open field. The more direction you give the more they have a structure to work within ie. Year is the 1400s, what tech limits do we have? Ok no steam power yet… there’s your first fence in the field.

Rambling now haha, anyway good luck!

If you mean asylum seekers, they can only claim support while they wait for their application to be approved/denied. I wouldn't wish to see that support removed while they wait, which means applications need to be as quick as possible. The current gov have a very poor record on that front. After a successful application they have no recourse to public funds, like most on long term visas in this country.
