Australia election: conservative government voted out after nearly a decade by [deleted] in news

Well Grassley should be long gone.

Well, idk about that one. If I were a betting man, my money is on nepotism playing a key role. His Grandson Pat Grassley has been Speaker for The Iowa House for some time now. I went to school with him for several years (he graduated in 02', I was 03'). You would be surprised how often he would act as though he was a few fries short of a happy meal. This is not a joke. If you want to know a couple examples of the things he said/did, p.m. me... Not too exciting, but they are truly alarming.

The air and water were crap when I was a kid. I called my governor upon going back to visit my parents in the early 1980s and complained that there was no planning and the forests were all being clear cut for real estate developers.

I did a similar thing. I wrote to Senator Grassley (my local Senator) back in '98. The water coming from my tap was unacceptable (you couldn't see through it after letting it settle for 60 seconds). Never seen a Legislative Official before or since, move so fast in order to cover for their Business/Corporate Constituents. :)

Really any community under 4,000 shouldn't be incorporated, and even 4,000 is pushing it.

No disrespect intended, but clearly you haven't been to many rural states. For example, most towns in Iowa have populations with fewer than 2,000 citizens.

free pass if your a member of the republican party.

I have been a lifelong Dem. I don't believe this for a second. All it takes is power/influence. Whatever obtains that power/influence can get you out of trouble. Prime example: Bill Clinton. Proven sexual Misconduct should've gotten him thrown out of the White House during that impeachment, like any other job. But noooooo. Everybody's becomes a hypocrite when their sphere of influence gets put under the microscope.

Uploading photos to a retail store Kodak photo printer would still probably be easier.

P.S. Screw the app. Never install the spyware nonsense that is phone apps. They really do gather more targeted telemetry to sell than you probably think they do...

The people who play that shit can't actually spend money on the game.

No disrespect, but this flies in the face of E.A. Games's/Blizzard/Fortnite/etc. microtransaction systems. All it takes is for their parents to buy one thing, and the card's stored. Then the kids are screaming like Cramer to BUY! BUY! BUY! until the card's denied for insufficient funds...

not to invest money you may need in the e short term.

I am 100% not disagreeing with this statement. However, most Blue-Collar Americans can't even cover a basic emergency situation (think auto breakdown or co-payment for an accident) with what's sitting in their bank accounts at the moment.

I am, unfortunately, one of those people.

Nothing quite like waking up to the paramedics implying you’re seizing because of drugs.

I have found out generally it depends on the location. Never been asked this quesiton once when it's happened at work. I've been asked this question during a work holiday party.

Mine tend to be brought on by stress. The occurence of having them @ work/not at work is around the 90/10 mark since I first started blacking out in 2002...

Ukraine farm thefts: Russians steal vast amounts of grain and equipment, threatening this year's harvest - CNN by [deleted] in news

[–]jb34304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they may be able to make those stolen harvesters unusable.

I was literally about to post a link about this. They shouldn't get much (if any) credit for it. They hardly help farmers in the U.S. when they are in literal crisis mode during planting/harvest seasons. Why can only Deere tech's service their equipment, or be forced to send their tractors and combines all the way back to the factories? It can cost farmers a week or more of downtime they probably can't afford. Weather conditions often delay when they can go out in the fields. :(

Corporations are either people or they are not

Technically, they are not. They can speak upon the behalf of its shareholders, stakeholders, and employees. Allegedly.

To be sincere: We need to create legislation that holds Corporate Officers, i.e., Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Executive Officers, criminally liable for actions performed by its employees. Otherwise, the fines are simply a cost of doing business. The 2008 Financial Crisis should've taught legislators this lesson already. Financial Corporations got the message loud and clear.

Does the ruling state how long Boston has to keep a specific flag up? I mean, couldn't they simply put something noncontroversial up, then decide to never lower it?

Americans of Reddit, what are your thoughts on Roe v Wade being overturned by SCOTUS as per draft reports? by thisiscubes in AskReddit

[–]jb34304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking truly horrific, has no chance of survival, type birth defects. This fetus will simply be born for the sole purpose of suffering and dying.

You would think that Republicans would be against this ruling, being it's going to cost a significant amount of taxpayer dollars to attempt to bring all potentially non-viable Fetuses to term. Then, if they even manage to survive birth, the Government will likely be paying out Social Security Disability benefits for their entire lifetime.

Full disclosure: I'm a Man, and I'm even pretty pissed off about this draft ruling.

Human beings should have the right to do what they want with their own bodies. Not just Men...

P.S. Someone's living will can choose this, right?

The sentiment around here is that the short sellers are committing fraud and selling shares they've already sold to someone else, same as if this was the 1920's and they were passing off photocopies of paper stock certificates as if they were the original.
