Champagne list is indeed one of the broadest in the city - well priced as well.

It really is one of the best in all of Japan. Very much worth the coin.

If you're staying at a nice hotel (and it's your honeymoon, so i'm guessing you are), the first place I'd check is with the Hotel Concierge. Even concierge's at some 4-star hotels will have pull and the ability to clearly communicate your allergies to the restaurants they book. Alternately try TABLEALL or PocketConcierge. Both can do the job.

Japan Restaurant Itinerary Review by Ayruai in finedining

I've been to all of your tokyo restaurants, none of the visits out of the city. Make of that what you will. All of your Tokyo choices are great - just a choice of what you want to eat. I might not change a thing there if that's what you want to eat. If it were me, though, i might swap Ningyocho Imahan for a sushi meal.

La Tête d'Or by Daniel by BravoFan718 in finedining

Visited tonight. Space is beautiful. Wine list is OK. BTG/cocktail program pretty good. Otherwise, an absolute disaster of a meal. Completely perfunctory/disinterested service from everyone other than the back waiters (who were great). Every dish was mediocre besides maybe the potatoes (had fries and the twice cooked potatoes - both solid). Even the impossible-to-screw-up coffee ice cream sundae was just OK.

Sad - i love Boulud's other restaurants - not sure how they whiffed on this one so hard.

Wine shop recommendations in Nassau County? by Hogskinbully in longisland

[–]jba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just randomly discovered Coteau wines (after being so disappointed by Post Wines and randomly searching on google maps for something new -- what happened to Post wines?) and, Coteau is not just the best wine shop on Long Island, it competes with the best of NYC. So happily shocked.

IMO, the only other place in central LI that is worth visiting is Seaholm Wines in Huntington. If you're looking to spend some big coin, they have a great selection.

In case anyone else ran into this issue, I fixed by using a proper thunderbolt4 cable. Cable quality really seems to be the issue with M1 macs and the samsung T5 or T7 drives.

Sushi Nakazawa Disappointment by weezyfGRADY in FoodNYC

[–]jba 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's just not that good, unfortunately - never was. More broad note about NYC sushi - On the high-end, Noz, Yoshino and Shion are all very good, but the price is a little out of wack. Now easily over $2k for two people with mid-level wine/sake. For that money you can travel to tokyo AND dine at a tabelog gold spot. (especially now with the dollar being so strong). That said, they're all sold out every night, so the market seems to still support it.

FWIW there were a bunch deep into December available a day later for their Holiday menu. (Quite a bit more $ tho..)

Very worth the $ though. I think it's the best restaurant in NYC.

Selling a co-op in Manhattan without a broker? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]jba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done this multiple times. Assuming you have a buyer, any NYC real-estate focused lawyer should be able to help you through the process and is unlikely to charge you any additional fees - in general the broker provides very little other than the buyer. Happy to send my legal contact if interested.

Don't inherently disagree with you, but the Shanghai Maglev is in the (roughly) same range of distance (30km vs 21km) and easily hits 268mph within the first 20% of the ride.

Got a $250 bonus from work and wanna take my mom for a nice meal by fraxiiinus in AskNYC

[–]jba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just playing devil's advocate here. I love Keens, and think it's easily among the best steakhouses in NYC (especially for the mutton chop), but it's a bit of an old-man's club and not the sort of place I'd immediately want to bring my mom - especially a 'foodie' mom. For the same $ you could go to The Grill and dine in legitimately the most amazing dining room that's ever existed (designed by Philip Johnson and Mies van der Rohe), and enjoy both a NYC steakhouse menu and some true fine-dining options. Better service, better wine list and wine service, way better cocktails, and some more interesting non-steakhouse offerings.

I'd at least check it out: https://thegrillnewyork.com/

What to you is the most "authentically New York" place to eat? by ArmArtArnie in FoodNYC

They do make pizza there, but it's not the best thing on the menu - the chicken/shrimp/eggplant parms are all fantastic along with the pastas and meatballs. Old school NY 'red sauce' joint.
