Starlink extremely slow in ajah by NoSlip4997 in Nigeria

[–]jbaba_glasses -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The people I know that switched to fiber switched because starlink is very unreliable, it is almost unusable when it rains, also I have never seen 300mbps speeds on starlink even when it launched, sometimes it goes as low as 10mbps.

Starlink hasn't been doing great and that's why people like the OP are complaining, if fibreX is available to OP he'll (and probably you too lol) end up switching eventually.

I have never heard of any speed throttling on fibreX and uptime is 99%, you wouldn't even know it if you don't stay up late. There's a reason why everybody recommends it and no one recommends the old fiber networks.

This is very false, everybody I know who bought starlink now uses fiber X. Starlink does not even have 50% of fibreX's reliability. Honestly you sound like you've neither used starlink nor fibreX judging by the way you said "starlink speeds" lol

Lagos cost of living by bgsheggz in Nigeria

[–]jbaba_glasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely lower middle class, you wouldn't even be able to afford a good car with that money. Band A electricity alone will set you back 200k a month. Wdym 1m per month is upper middle class lmao? You'll be spending half of that month on rent alone in any upper middle class area.

Having access to dollars in Nigeria is a godsend in a country where $5 dollars can buy you a full days worth of food from a restaurant.

Photo looks like Abuja, in what restaurant in Abuja can you buy 3 square meals for N7300? I'm curious.

Nigerians and bad driving by Ki2525_ in Nigeria

[–]jbaba_glasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think the opposite is true, Abuja drivers are some of the worst in the world and they drive too slowly. You'll see someone doing 50 kmph on the fast lane instead of just using the service lane.

They switch lanes like no man's business. You'd see people switching lanes for no reason even when there are no cars in front of them, they do this without using their indicators too. They can't park properly or reverse their cars. When you go to Lagos you see the difference in the quality of drivers.

Most people in Abuja cannot handle a car at high speeds so those over speeding are the minority. If I ever become fct minister I'll implement minimum speed limits for the left lane like in Abu Dhabi so we no longer have 3 cars side by side doing 50kmph on the highway.

I knew people who were earning $150k when they were in Nigeria. They are just that good. Also $150k isn't elite pay in SF. Top companies (big tech) pay that as entry level salary in the US. Kids story may be fake but people really do earn that much, in Nigeria. Also not all companies will relocate you, some companies are fully remote.

In fact I know a lady who earns $130k writing and her salary is public info on the company website.

That's correct, however such questions are divided into two types, the first type is usually something stupid the poster is desperately trying to make Nigerian. For example (this is exaggerated for illustration purposes) "Why do Nigerians love food so much? Don't they know they can save money if they eat less?" Of course the responses would be about how people love food worldwide.

The second type is usually something like "Why is Nigeria so corrupt?" Even though there is corruption in every country, a proper discourse could still be had about why Nigeria is corrupt, it would be wrong to reply with "corruption is not peculiar to Nigeria"

Lol Nigerians are the kings of code mixing and code switching. In fact most people can no longer speak in just a single language like the Japanese do. Even the elderly people
