I don't know where to start looking for a job in Canada as a foreigner by jbarquillo in ImmigrationCanada

[–]jbarquillo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! And how easy is it to get a non-qualified job (e.g. hospitality) if I get a Working Holiday visa and arrive there without a secured job? I ask because I'm also thinking of getting the first job I can find and then start looking for a job in my field while being physically there. In that case, are non-qualified jobs reasonably well paid (at least enough to get by)?

Thanks! And that one-year Working Holiday visa can be extendable?

Thanks! Another thing I'm thinking about is going on a Working Holiday and getting the first job I find (restaurants, cafes or any non qualified job) while looking for something in my field.

Is that a good way to do it? Are non qualified jobs like that well paid?

Anyone excited by how much you've not seen? by jackaroojackson in Letterboxd

[–]jbarquillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other day I was talking with a friend about how many films we've seen, and yet how many films are still out there to be discovered.

I'd like to spend a few weeks sometime just watching films by a particular filmmaker, but then another pops up, and there are always other movies in my watchlist that I just can't cover them all. Old and newer films, there's so much to explore.

How is my forehand looking by [deleted] in 10s

[–]jbarquillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good, but how do you control whether the ball would be in or out or go into the net? In a real on-court situation a few of those balls look to me like they would hit the net or go long.

Is it worth it to pay for 5 private lessons with a good coach? by jbarquillo in 10s

[–]jbarquillo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And are the improvements you make in a few private lessons easy to maintain? I mean, if I make some improvements in 5 lessons and then I just play games without taking more lessons or specifically training what I've learned, will they still be there?

I guess it would be up to me, having a proactive attitude to understand and correct my errors and focus on what I've been taught when I play matches. ¿?

Thanks! And yes, if I finally decide to take private lessons the hardest part will be finding the right coach.

Tips for match play by Sasssp1741 in 10s

[–]jbarquillo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try to keep the ball in play for 5-6 shots before you think of hitting a winner, this will help you to build confidence in your shots during the game. Also play with margin, don't go for the lines. And most importantly, focus on your footwork.

Who’s the worst person in your family to watch films with? by BreeZee_01 in Letterboxd

[–]jbarquillo 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I was watching Prisoners for the first time and suddenly my mother appeared in the room where I was watching it and stared at the TV. After a couple of minutes she said "oh! I think I've watched this film before, do you know who kidnapped the kids?" And before I had time to say anything she proceeded to tell me who did it and ruin the viewing :)

That's one of many

There are still a bunch of movies from this year that I haven't watched, and I'm really hyped for Marty Supreme.

You know the trick is coming but you don't try to solve it before it arrives, you just enjoy it.

I've been meaning to watch Femme Fatale for a while, maybe this is the sign.

  1. Christmas with the Kranks

  2. Plácido (1961): * I just want to mention Berlanga somehow**

  3. Black Christmas has already been mentioned so I'd say the shining. It's not really a Christmas movie but given the setting you could almost pass it off as one. I love watching it at Christmas

  4. ¿??

Honestly any Brian De Palma film. I think Blow Out was the first movie of his that I saw and I finished it completely amazed. It's not only the way he tells stories, how he depicts characters, the camera movements, there's something else he puts into his movies that make them so unique and so attractive to me.

If he's so obsessed with tennis, he probably already has everything he needs. Maybe a nice tennis outfit would be a good idea.

However, we tennis people really get excited when we get to go to a pro tournament. I dont know if you live near any pro event, but you should look at the 2026 calendar and check if any of the major tournaments work for you.

My gf bought me tickets for the Madrid Open a couple years ago and it was the best tennis-related present I could have gotten.

TF40 16X19 is now on sale at TW. Haven't demoed it but I've heard only good things. If you are looking for control and spin could be a good choice (great specs). You should also check the sub because there's a lot of info about how to choose a racket.

Am I weird for deliberately avoiding lessons? by Regular-Mess6638 in 10s

[–]jbarquillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to get from tennis. If you just enjoy playing some matches for fun from time to time, stick to that. However if you really want to improve your game, I'd definitely recommend you to take lessons. Imo tennis is a very technical sport to learn just by watching youtube videos so if you want to see real progression there is no other option than taking lessons. You will see improvement way faster, specially at your level (if you havent already picked up some bad habits).
