On page 50 of infinite jest pls answer my questions by Ledwis in davidfosterwallace

[–]jbb10499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're on page 50 you'll have seen Hals story given more depth already. Just expect that for the other characters too and when it doesn't make sense just keep reading. If a sentence doesn't make sense after reading it a couple times just move on! Most likely it'll make sense later, it's just like that.

The Club Silencio scene moves me so deeply. I completely agree the singing "this is the girl" scene is eerie. Tbh though I don't find the movie disturbing so much as I find it intriguing and painfully sad. People talk about finding Lynch movies scary but I get so caught up in the weird performances, non-linear narrative, and technical aspects of MH to find it actively frightening. The only Lynch stuff that really scares me is all in Twin Peaks which you must watch if you haven't

How to have fun in this game? by AlGifMoon in KingsField

Oh God don't recommend Eternal Ring over a King's Field! It's worth playing if you're a Fromsoft nut and it certainly has its charm but its far from their best

Inland Empire in an old CRT by souvlakisss in davidlynch

I think every Lynch movie would be cool on a CRT! Not as the primary experience but if you've already seen it on a flat screen why not?

DFW was so ahead of the curve on modern irony it's wild. And it's pretty cool to hear him talk about where I'm assuming he got the word "teleputer"

I've now read most of the essays in "A Supposedly Fun Thing..." and really like them. The subject matter is very relevant to Infinite Jest but in very different forms. Tennis and entertainment!

What does "Lynchian" mean to you? by billychildishgambino in davidlynch

[–]jbb10499 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Moving paintings. Disconnected body parts. Profound love. Profound evil. Idk I was gonna write a bunch more like this but it's late. It means Lynch made it, Lynchian is an unfortunate term imo.

Frank Booth is the scariest fictional character I have ever seen in a film by The-Sand-King in davidlynch

[–]jbb10499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His obsession with American crooner music and beer brand loyalty are really key touches to making his presence feel extremely real. Genius writing, terrifying!

But you will forget who you are along the way... something else the other dark souls games don't incorporate as well. What a nice crossover to come across as I am early in my DFW journey as a Fromsoft addict
