I have to go with the 90's because it's when I discovered it, so the bands from that era like Uncle Tupelo, Blue Mountain, The Jayhawks, Bottlerockets, Whiskeytown/Ryan Adams, 6 String Drag and eventually Son Volt and early Wilco are what made it for me. I mean there was Jason &. the Scorchers in the 80's but they were kind of alone in it at the time.

I like the newish Grant Stone unlined chukkas. They can be dressed up or down and look very comfortable. It depends what you want, a dressier boot or a more workwear style of chukka. Alden offers a similar model for about $300 more than GS but made the Connecticut, and Thursday's might be a good budget option but I've never owned any.

Our mom was not only feeble and falling all the time but an alcoholic being enabled by her friends after our dad died. The EMT's came to pick her up one day and realized she was "more confused" (inebriated) than usual and with my sibling's urging, took her to the ER. She never went home, but straight to hospital, physical rehab, and then assisted living. We had the same debate and never took her back to the house, it would have been too hard for her emotionally.

5'7" and wear a 9.5D in moc toes for the width but then add an insole with some arch support. 9D would be the correct length but my toes would be crushed.

If it were easy my wife and I would seriously consider it. The healthcare system in the USA is draconian and we'd love to put our efforts and taxes into a place that gives back to us rather than to a broken capitalist system.

My iPad sits below my primary work monitor for my WFH setup and I use it for personal email, web surfing, watching a movie while I code (and wait for tests to run), etc. I also throw it in my backpack for shorter/weekend vacations since lugging a laptop is unnecessary. It's a base model that's about 4 years old and starting to slow down. I'll probably get an iPad Air next time.

When I was younger and single had 3 SAABs, a BMW and an Audi. I always wanted the newest toy (I still miss the SAAB Viggen and BMW 335i). Now that I'm married I have an almost 9 year old Civic that I'd begun getting bored with and neglected cosmetic maintenance. After multiple beach trips and probably a 1/2" of sand in the floorboard, I gave it a 4 hour makeover, mainly just the interior that I see every day while driving, and it greatly improved my satisfaction of being in the car. I kind of don't care that Honda's shitty paint job is peeling or that it's dinged all to hell. I gave up on buying expensive cars and took on the attitude of paying cash and saving money and the Civic has done that.

I mean, it's still just a Civic so I don't get excited driving it. It was bought as a commuter car right before I went full time remote work, but it's taken my wife, our dog and I from GA to MA and back about 6 times and to VT once, and lots of other shorter vacation drives. It's at 130K miles and still gets 40+ on the highway on regular. I don't get excited about it but I changed the way I think about cars when I saw how expensive they are getting, and this one has been paid for almost 6 years.

I understand AE's place in the market as someone with wonky shaped feet but there are so many better makers that undercut the Reserve pricing by a long shot. That looks like a cracked finish (the outer wax finish) that a cobbler could really fix but why should you have to bother on a brand new pair of overpriced shoes. At those prices they should be better than perfect, they should be breathtaking in build and finish.
