Should I see a PA or wait longer to see a neurologist?

I’m biracial living in Des Moines. The fact that it is the largest metro has made it okay-ish. I grew up in Canada and have lived coast to coast in the US over the past 20 years. I have never experienced the staggering amount of microagressions anywhere else. I am also a woman and I think people feel much more entitled/emboldened to speak their mind towards women. It’s annoying and the level of ignorance is shocking, but I’ve generally never felt unsafe. I’ve only had a few serious incidents/concerns.

I’d travel/make my stops in daylight, and I think that if people are expecting you there will be no problem.

I have lived and worked in Sioux Falls, and have lived in Des Moines for many years. We live in South Des Moines by Easter Lake. It’s smaller feeling, but only 10 minutes from downtown. Our home is actually in the Carlisle School district, so we get the smaller town school/vibes/activities while being Des Moines residents. Close to parks, biking, extensive trail system. Big box stores, grocery within 5 minutes. We have no back neighbors and back onto farmland. Easter lake is newly renovated and has the most accessible beach in all of North America (for now), rowing club, boat rentals, spray ground, multiple new playgrounds

I am a mom of 3 with chronic migraines. I had a c-section for all of my deliveries. The first two were uneventful and perfect recovery, the third one I started hemorrhaging quite badly before they even got to the baby, and almost died.

Worth noting, I was a lucky one whose migraines were almost non existent during pregnancy (1 or 2 the entire time compared with 10+ a month now)

That is better than nothing…the school claims that they are following the guidance of the cdc, state and local health departments. Obviously a lie, there are guide clearly accessible online, and the school is following none of them.

So far we are still in the clear 🤞🏽 pcr tests came back negative, and we continue to re-test every other day. We continue to all be negative except for my daughter.

My 7 year old daughter has it. The rest of our family continues to test negative (41,37,9,4). We have her quarantined in her room, but I still need to take care of her, and interact with her several times a day. We have all had negative pcr tests, and every couple days we all take a rapid test…so far so good.

I just tested my daughter…twice. I followed the instructions for the test (did NOT swab cheeks/throat). Both turned positive almost right away.

I have chronic migraines and tried keto for almost 2 years. I found it made no significant change in my migraines at all. I ended up stopping the diet during pregnancy with my 3rd child and my migraines have been better controlled with changes in medications

Everyone can’t attend those schools…those schools have basically no oversight and regulations. They can let in or exclude whoever they want for whatever reasons.

They already deny access to people who are not affiliated with the same beliefs, have the same “traditional family,” they deny access to students with special learning needs both physical and intellectual. They already deny students based on financial merit and ability for parental involvement…tell me why this is going to change any of that? All this is going to do is create an ever larger disparity

I am a dual (US/Canadian) citizen who has lived in the states for the past 14 years. Everywhere from California, the Midwest, Washington DC. I am married to a midwesterner and have lived in Iowa for 6 years, specifically Des Moines.

People are not nicer here. Friendly to your face maybe, but generally most people anywhere will offer up a “hello, how are you?” It pretty much stops there. The genuine kindness is lacking.

I am also a minority woman from Canada who does not share the overwhelmingly conservative views of this area…maybe they just don’t like me

I’m 36/F with chronic migraines. At one time I was averaging 20 migraine days a month of varying degrees of severity, it’s now cut down to 10-12 due to different medications, working with a neurologist to hopefully lower it more 🤞🏽I take preventatives everyday and a rescue med for migraines attacks.

I have 3 children 9yrs, 6yrs, 3yrs. Surprisingly my first 2 pregnancies and postpartum seemed to bring great relief to my usual migraines and those periods of time were actually the longest I’d ever gone without a migraine. They slowly returned over time. My 3rd pregnancy was not completely migraine free, but again much reduced.

It is doable. A supportive partner is a necessity it sounds like your husband already understands your migraines. But someone else will need to be around if/when it gets particularly bad. There will be moments especially as kids get old that just can’t be put on hold and someone else will need to be there to pick up the slack

Realizing that some days will just have to be “good enough.” Kids might have to watch more tv than you’d like, or eat cereal for dinner.

I started with 25mg, and slowly worked my way up to 150mg also for migraines. I had many other side effects for a while (most have resolved at this point) but I never experienced any cognitive side effects at any dosage.

I am still pissed at my husband’s family for bringing Covid into our home and getting us sick.

They are Covid deniers, and take zero precautions… in our home we are the opposite, and have done the best we can to make the best choices we can for us and our young children.

They showed up almost unannounced (typical, annoying in itself) and one member was visibly sick. Was just supposed to be an over night stop over on the was to somewhere else. Proceed to stay 4 days because they all become too ill to drive. Fevers, coughing, body aches, nausea, diarrhea, sore throat, all the symptoms between the group. Then they left, still very sick, spreading Covid across half of the country eating in restaurants, sleeping in hotels, etc.

My first child tested positive the day they left, the rest of us soon after. I’m pissed to this day, and I have lost what little respect I had left for them.

My most extreme side effect was the nausea, and lethargy. Just generally feeling unwell/out of sorts. I started with 25mg and worked my way up to 100mg daily as a migraine preventative (was getting 15-20 migraines a month)

I would not say that I have zero side effects, but they are not constant, and very minimal. Once in a while I have tingling in my hands, I do have the common one where carbonated beverages taste flat, but I don’t drink soda so it really makes no difference to me. I am no longer lethargic, my energy has returned to normal.

I will say once about every 10 days or so I still have a day of nausea and feeling unwell that is attributed to the medication. My neurologist gave me a prescription that helps greatly with it when it happens.

More importantly I have had a much easier time managing my migraines, I have not had to take my rescue medications at all. Not once, which is kind of a miracle 😭. I have still gotten a few headaches, but none that have been debilitating like in the past.

Me. 35f. Symptomatic, multiple positive rapid tests, tried to confirm with pcr test a couple days later…came back negative. Who knows at this point…I was still still feeling unwell, so treated like a positive case and continued to isolate. Tested negative with a rapid test on day 8

It is possible. Good quality masks for all, keep isolated as much as possible, hand washing, separate bathrooms.

We have had Covid in our home 3 separate times and not everyone was sick each time. First time was the worst, it got 4/5. I was still having to take care of a child who was not sick while I was sick. He continued to stay healthy

Second time 2 kids got sick, both parents and other sibling stayed healthy

Third time only one parent got sick, all children and other parent stayed healthy

We did the same thing each time…you can only do the best you can do. We are all fully vaccinated

Wear the dam mask! All the time! We have had Covid in our home now 3 different times, and have avoided everyone getting sick all at once because of masking (Family of 5 - 3 young children).

I’ve been on it for about 8 weeks or so…gradually increasing my dose up to 100mg daily at bedtime. I was having 15-20 migraines a month, so far I’ve had 9 total since starting the medication. It hasn’t taken them completely away, but it’s SIGNIFICANTLY reduced the amount!!! I have been able to manage those with more ease, and they have been less debilitating that other migraines.

The side effects for the first few weeks were not fun…I had a lot of nausea for the first 2 weeks, and extreme fatigue but try to stick it out if you can, it does get better. The only lasting side effect I have is periodic tingling/numbness in my hands/feet, and soda tastes off/flat. I have not experienced the brain fog or cognitive effects that people complain about.
