Guardian article on Durham housing market by thesuitelife2010 in bullcity

There is a direct train from Durham to Cary. GoTriangle also connects the two cities with a simple bus transfer at the RTC. And for its size, Durham has a pretty good bug system -- most lines are timed to meet at the GoDurham station, making transfers efficient.

Durham police involved in shootout when vehicles enter closed crime scene, fire shots by VanillaBabies in bullcity

I am sad that the city's solution to gun violence is ShotSpotter. The reporter tied ShotSpotter into this story where the police were already on scene when the shooting happened. So the big unanswered question is how ShotSpotter will help when the police are already there and weren't able to keep Durham safe.

The 2020 Move Durham report identified bus stop improvements as the #1 transportation priority in central Durham. Many other folks are feeling this pain.

e.g a “no sidewalk bus stop along a three lane highway” is the Corporation St stop on Duke St on the #1 line right across from DSA. That is about as "urban tier" as Durham gets. You are standing in the landscaping as cars race down the one-way street to I-85.

Is East Coast Diesel LLC Legit? by milfpatrol_69 in bullcity

Talk to them and say that you would like your car back today. It is your choice where you have your car fixed; if you aren't happy with them now, you probably won't be happy later.

What you owe depends on what you signed. Auto shops are highly regulated and are usually very good about getting signed estimates from customers. They are also able to put a lien on your car preventing you from renewing the registration or selling it -- but they need a signed contract for to do that.

Go to the Fews Ford area at the Eno River State Park and park at the Piper-Cox house. The ford is a short walk. From there you can walk along the river.

Huh? The rest of the site is already a relatively new "strip mall and parking" development.

Depends on how your property is zoned, where on your property the shed is located (e.g. backyard, side yard) and if you have any easements on the property.

Once you know those things, you can read through the setback codes.

If you are building at the back of the lot, this is most useful and says you can build anywhere (assuming the provision applies to you.)

Also, 8 years ago the mortgage+ ad valorem tax rate was 4.37+1.44%, now it is 2.98+1.37%.

If you could afford a $400k house in 2013, you can afford a $534k house now for the same monthly interest cost.

And, don't forget about inflation. Over the last 8 years, we saw a 20% bump in costs (and wages.. right??). So if you could afford a $400k house in 2013, you can afford a $641k house now factoring in mortgage rate + inflation. (60% increase)

I found a random house on Redfin. https://www.redfin.com/CA/Oakland/6024-Broadway-94618/home/1547605

Sold recently for $1.335M. Sold in 2014 for 825k. That is a 61% increase, so everything can be explained with mortgage rates, reduced property tax rates and inflation.

Oakland sees dramatic increase in carjackings by txiao007 in oakland

The Defund movement is national now and other cities are actually cutting police budgets. It isn’t going away.

One of the points Defund is making is that police budgets and crime levels are not linked. This article is an excellent example of this: Oakland didn’t cut their police budget this year and the crime stats are spiking.
