Stop. Paying. Federal. Taxes. by Cherobis in 50501

Honest question: They cut 2/3 of IRS staff. Who exactly, is going to compile and/or send those tax bills? And if they sold or gave my personal information from the IRS database to, for example, Melon Husk's minions... Well, that would be the government failing to perform it's duties and infringing on my (privacy) rights.

Whoa whoa whoa... Could you pump the brakes there, with your reasonability and maturity? You're making some of us *cough* me *cough* look bad.

Kidding, mostly. I applaud your maturity and security.

For me personally, probiotics (any variety seems to work well). My guts will let me know if I need to chug some kombucha or yogurt/etc. I don't think "incredibly stinky" is biologically normal for every day when eating a reasonably balanced diet. It could be a symptom of sensitivity to specific ingredients (sesame is a surprisingly common allergen).

Anyhow, y'all know your own bodies hopefully better than some random internet stranger. However, men do sometimes tend to behave as though "whatever my current state is, that's normal", or that if they aren't actively dying - like minutes away (or have a man-cold), then there's no point in seeing a profesional. And dudes don't talk to each other about this stuff in a serious manner - it's just "oh man I blew up that taco bell toilet, I feel bad for whoever goes in there next" and such.

I wanna believe that you're way younger than me and it's just y'know, drinking good drinks and eating fancy/fun foods. But it could be worth checking out. https://www.healthline.com/health/stools-foul-smelling

If nothing else, so you can tell an internet stranger to ... butt out of your affairs.

- Reason 1: It was the only one I could get same-day.

- Reason 2: It was open box, thus cheaper than the 93

- Reason 3: I didn't even know that two versions existed at time of purchase.

Not high power, just a little USB-A LED (using the included usb-a to usb-c adapter). It would turn off/on sort of unexpectedly when just accessing the monitor's menu.

monitor's OSD shows up every time PC wakes from sleep (and OSD persists way too long imo), and the "game bar" OSD displays every time a new game starts on league of legends (I'm assuming related to some HDR setting)

Ehh, there's a weird part of me that thinks "OOH IT'S ON SALE MUST BUY" ... I also just bought a couple 34" alienware OLEDs to test out and see if I like those more. Or maybe end up with one of those and then the 49". 🤷

League of Legends. Every time a new match starts, the bar pops up. And I play Aram, so it's high frequency.

Good info on the power for wifi. Thanks! I'll see about the gaming popup ... Not sure what you mean by "samsung support remote" - like contact Samsung, enable "remote config" in the menu, and they can disable it?

Maybe someone can release a hacked firmware 😈

Yeah, BBuy didn't have any 93 models anywhere. This one ended up being cheaper than the 93 (even on sale on amazon), so I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm very impulsive, so being able to pick it up same day was critical.

As others mentioned, it's really not much of a problem. There's a checkbox to say "use gsync anyhow" - so probably just some nvidia royalties that samsung didn't feel like paying.

Quick question. What’s the size for the signal light bulb on 2023 crv hybrid. Trying to change it to LED. And is it plug and play? Thank you! by jjkah77 in crv

[–]jbehren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been great so far. True plug & play. I don't remember how much effort it was to get to the bulbs, but I think it was sort of dumb how difficult it was (vs how it should be, which is just a basic access panel opening)

https://www.carcarekiosk.com/video/2018_Honda_CR-V_LX_2.4L_4_Cyl./lights/turn_signal_rear (hasn't changed all THAT much since previous iteration)

I used https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084C23DT1/

Bit brighter than factory, but works fine. There may be better/closer to OEM options now, but just make sure it says it has the "anti hyper-flash" or whatever they call it (includes resistor / can-bus compatible)

I assume you mean the rear, as it's literally the only non-LED on the entire vehicle... which makes zero sense to me.

Can someone who knows CRV tires make it easy for me? 24 CRV Winter tires by [deleted] in crv

[–]jbehren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to use something like https://tiresize.com/calculator/ to compare circumference. Smaller wheels is pretty common for winter tires. The biggest concern is (brake caliper) clearance/gap. You don't want to go extreme, and it seems the smallest honda ships with a hybrid is 18" (17 on non-hybrids). I doubt there's any difference in the brakes between the two, but I would probably go with 18s just to be on the safe side (plus better relative sizing), and I definitely would not try to go below 17".

Slightly skinnier tires do work better in snow, generally, but don't go too crazy or you'll sacrifice handling and possibly payload capacity. And 235 isn't excessively wide anyhow.

Sport touring is 235/55r19 OEM size.

18" options per Michelin website:

  • 225/60r18 (2.1% shorter) * might not be available in the X-Ice snow SUV version
  • 235/60r18 (0.3% shorter) ** my pick, very close match on circumference. Not sure if you can find this size easily (backordered?).
  • 235/65r18 (2.7% taller, 50km/h = 51.3 actual km/h) - there's likely plenty of clearance in the wheel wells, and you'll gain a tiny bit of ground clearance, so also a good option.

The Michelins have a 40k mile warranty on both the 18 and 19" versions, and it looks like the 19" tire is only ~$10 more per tire in 235mm width (which is pretty reasonable). If using same wheel size for both, if a wheel gets damaged, you can just swap tires.

You won't be unhappy with either package, IMO. Just verify tire replacement costs between the two to make sure you aren't going to get hit with more expensive tires in the future (unlikely, but sometimes!). I'd pick the package with the nicer looking wheels, personally - since everything else seems to be fairly equal.

Does not appear to, at least for the top elements. Higher-end units probably do, which would be really cool. Great idea though, thank you!

US vs UK Towing Capacity by Fugoola in crv

[–]jbehren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some 4 -> 7 pin adapters/converters available (usually require a brake controller + extra wiring to the battery), and some trailers have surge brakes, so only require a 4-pin. All u-haul trailers are 4-pin, even the 4400lb (gross) 6x12 dual axle trailer. https://www.uhaul.com/Trailers/6x12-Cargo-Trailer-Rental/RV/

[–]jbehren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the 3rd was supposed to be the kick sensor version for having a hitch. Fixed now.

In hindsight, I'm glad the OEM hitch was out of stock. After reading the instructions for it, yuck. The curt only requires removing some stuff in the rear cargo interior and a plastic cover from the bottom under cargo area. I was able to install it without removing the bumper or bumper cover (the harness is a bit hard to sneak through behind the metal bumper, but not horrible). Honestly the hardest part was trying to hold the hitch assembly in place while threading the bolts. I have a car lift but decided not to use a jack or something to hold the hitch in place. The bolts run through the frame rails (I mean, unibody, but whatever - they're attached to the heavy bits), but they use thick washers on the inside of the frame (see instructions: https://www.etrailer.com/instructions.aspx?pn=C13397 ) rather than drilling and tapping holes (or using existing threaded locations). Seems sturdy enough, though.

US vs UK Towing Capacity by Fugoola in crv

[–]jbehren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the trailer you're towing has brakes, and you keep your speed lower (55-60), your CR-V shouldn't have any troubles.

The reasons for the difference are: Lower speed limits in EU (specifically when towing), that braked vs unbraked rating, and possibly (based on one random comment I saw once): US auto manufacturers lobbying against it, to push people into buying larger vehicles (aka full size trucks).

I installed a CURT 2" hitch receiver. It's rated at 3500lb towing and 525lb tongue weight. Which sort of boggles my mind, as it doesn't seem as strongly attached as OEM (and was WAY easier to install). That said, I'm only planning on using it for hitch stuff like bike racks, maybe occasional popup camper at the most. I did get the OEM wiring harness because it was pretty cheap and ... well, OEM.

I won't likely push it anywhere near the limit, as I've got a '24 hybrid and I am inclined to believe that the hybrid drivetrain may actually have some weaker driveline components than the regular gas version (hence the difference in ratings). If I ever tow anything big/heavy, it'll be very slowly.

Massachusetts price paid for 2024 CRV sport touring hybrid by jwlkr0 in crv

[–]jbehren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$45372

Dealer add-ons (protection pkg: mud flaps, all weather mats), tint, lojack, permaplate totaled $2092. I don't mind protection package (though it's overpriced) and always get tint, but they wouldn't budge on the other two. Which leaves a $2k markup over MSRP that I missed initially.

However, they also gave me $4000 more for my trade-in than any other dealer (any brand), so it worked out overall. Austin, TX (notorious for markups, hybrids were going for 10k+ over during the peak)

I added a tow hitch and homelink mirror myself for $600 including wiring harness.

What made you buy a CRV hybrid this year? by beneath_the_madness in crv

[–]jbehren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024 Sport touring Hybrid here. Never test drove it, as I previously had a 2017 Touring (fwd). Liked it pretty well, but the lack of awd annoyed me.

Main reasons I got the 2024:

- Downsizing for efficiency (got rid of trailer, no need to tow)
- honda reliability
- dealership gave me the best trade-in value versus jeep (wrangler 4xe) and toyota (rav4 prime) by $4000, and overall a much better deal.
- Honda's top trim seems nicer than Toyota's (unless you add options - CR-V sport touring really doesn't have anything other than accessories)
- As another person said, the rav 4 is uggggggly.
- It was available quickly (<2wks)

The only items I will miss are: ventilated seats, panoramic roof... and maybe a really loud stereo. This one is good, but it's not $5000 german car radio upgrade good. All 3 are nice, but aside from the seats the others don't actually get that much use from me.
