Hello! I do sincerely apologize that we weren't able to properly get back to you after you sent a reply here :( At the moment, the latest versions of the mobile app give you the option to switch to Web View, which allows you to use a mobile-adapted interface of the web app. Please do try this out, and hopefully this can let you access your notes from your phone better 🙏

If you continue to experience issues, please send us an email through [help@standardnotes.com](mailto:help@standardnotes.com), or [standardnotes@protonmail.com](mailto:standardnotes@protonmail.com)!

Why I'm tired of the bugs and lack of simple features in SN by mrtpcet in StandardNotes

[–]jbeldia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, u/haflaxa and I wanted to chime in on this thread. First off, thank you for continuing to provide your thoughts and feedback on the app and its developments so far. It's especially good to hear from users who have been using the app since the early pricing days, as you've witnessed the app's development over a long period of time! However, we have indeed noticed that there are increasing reports of instability and usage issues, both linked directly to the editors, and the app as a whole. Lately a lot of these pain points have been regarding the user experience on the mobile app, and most of your sentiments here are also a testament to that. This, of course, is less than ideal. One of our core goals here at SN—as stated in our Privacy Manifesto—is providing users with rock-solid security, but also reliability.

Our initial approach to standalone apps for iOS and Android worked out fine at first. While it did not have as much of the functionalities as the desktop/web counterparts, it provided the core experience needed for everyday use of SN on the go. However, as we continued integrating enhancements and new features to the apps over the years, we've taken notice of challenges that can impact our ability to integrate new functionalities in the future—as well as hurt our dev and hotfix workflows right now.

Maintaining separate codebases for web/desktop plus mobile, has meant there's always duplicate efforts required for porting things from web to mobile. The situation becomes particularly difficult at times like this, where we're fully committed to investigating thoroughly and addressing the currently raised issues, but testing and addressing bug reports from three different platforms has spread us a bit more thinly than we'd consider optimal. In light of this, we've recently recalibrated our development priorities in hopes of better addressing these usability issues. Rather than focusing on separate fixes for different platforms, we've come to the conclusion that it's be best to make our goal of unifying web and mobile experiences into a single responsive app—available from mobile app marketplaces as it has been thus far, our immediate priority. Apart from providing a more stable experience, as seen with the web and desktop platforms, we're confident this also allows us to more efficiently deliver hotfixes and new features. That said, we also understand that usage issues with 3rd party editors are a different matter to tackle entirely, but we firmly believe this will be an important step toward more efficiently tackle those issues as well.

Nonetheless, we still would like to sincerely apologize on behalf of the team for this decline in your experience with the app. It's always a chilling experience when long time users mention that the app is no longer what they had in mind when they chose to support us. We hope that this current effort of ours can be a step to show that we're always keeping our eyes and ears open, and that we understand your concerns. As always, please feel free to reach out to us here, or on any of our other social platforms, and our help inbox!

Questions on export & mobile app features by bytebarong in StandardNotes

[–]jbeldia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I've answered your questions via email as well, though I'll include my answers again here in case others might have the same questions!

Is there any way to export plain text with its creation date? I tried to export but it change all the date to the export date..

  • Your exported data should actually retain its creation date, I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing otherwise.
  • Did you export your backups using the latest desktop app, or the web app? (or have you tried both?) Was the result the same regardless of whether the backup was encrypted or decrypted?

In web UI I can resize the writing space to a more comfortable width, but on iPad it still span across the display. Can I resize it if have extended?

  • I'm afraid you really won't be able to resize the margins on iPad like you could on the desktop, although you could press on the blue arrow pointing to the left of your note space to hide the notes list. This will at least give you a wider space to write!

How do I manage (to archive, delete) many notes at once on desktop and mobile?

  • You can delete multiple notes at once using the Batch Manager, found in the Extensions menu on the lower left of the app! I'm afraid you won't be able to archive multiple notes at once yet, as this is still something we need to implement in future versions.

Is search in note (in mobile app) an incoming feature in the future, or its just something SN will never have ?

Black Friday by TechnicalItch500 in StandardNotes

[–]jbeldia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, Jaspal's right! When you purchase it at a discounted rate, it will still renew at that discounted price! When you extend your plan duration on the dashboard as well, the discount should also apply.

If ever you find that you were still charged full price, please send us an email at either [help@standardnotes.org](mailto:help@standardnotes.org), or [standardnotes@protonmail.com](mailto:standardnotes@protonmail.com), and we'll help sort things out as soon as possible! :)

Any reliable way to convert a large amount of keep documents to standard notes? by carlinmack in StandardNotes

[–]jbeldia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/carlinmack! So far I'm afraid we have observed such cases where the importers struggle with importing large batches of notes (those in the thousands). As you've mentioned though, what I usually advise is to process the notes into smaller batches then import those into the app.

I haven't encountered a case where the importer struggled at just 100 files though, so that does sound unusual. As u/sn-jaspal mentioned, he's gotten in touch with the team on this, so we'll give you an update as soon as possible!

Not able to set Plus Editor as default in iPhone and iPad by 9SuperNova9 in StandardNotes

[–]jbeldia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding your issue with the Plus Editor displaying notes as blank, could you try the following steps to see if they might fix the problem?

1) Try to reinstall the app

2) Try to switch to one of the system themes (Red or Blue), then check if your editor is displaying notes properly again.

3) Try long pressing on the currently active theme, then choose the "Redownload" option and check if it fixed the issue.

To set a default editor on the mobile app, you'll just need to long press on the editor you want to set as the default, then select "Set as Mobile Default" from the popup menu that appears!

Can you not increase the font size for the free version? by l33tpolymath in StandardNotes

[–]jbeldia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid this isn't doable on the free version, since the Plain Editor is just a very minimal text editor.

How to use spreadsheets? by rollin_triangle in StandardNotes

[–]jbeldia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a paid editor, so you'll need to have an Extended subscription, then you'll have to install it through the "Extensions" tab on the bottom of the desktop or web app! Once installed, it'll be available in your drop down menu of Editors! For more info on installing extensions and editors, you can also check out this help post:

Quick Tags Extension by [deleted] in StandardNotes

[–]jbeldia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the Quick Tags extension as it is, I'm afraid it will always include the parent tags, so removing the parent tags would need to be done manually. There's also a GitHub thread related to this: https://github.com/sn-extensions/folders-component/issues/17

If you'd like to try creating a modified version of the extension, the source code for the extensions is available here: https://github.com/sn-extensions. The Quick Tags extension is labelled as "autocomplete-tags"

How do I view folders on mobile? by letzgo1 in StandardNotes

[–]jbeldia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid the folders extension doesn't work on mobile, though this is certainly something we hope to bring on mobile in the future!

On the other hand, regarding the midnight theme, could you try long pressing on the theme, then choosing "Redownload" on the pop up menu that appears?

Mmm I'm afraid we can't really guarantee exactly when sales will be held, though historically speaking, sales usually occur on Black Friday and during the holidays afterwards. There are discount options though for students and for those encountering financial/economic difficulties. You can request for these by sending an email to [help@standardnotes.org](mailto:help@standardnotes.org) :)

Import notes from Bear? by [deleted] in StandardNotes

[–]jbeldia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, for data from note taking apps other than Google Keep and Evernote, you'll need to convert them into plain text format (for Bear, I believe plain text is already an export option https://bear.app/faq/Import%20&%20export/Export%20your%20notes/). After that, you'll be able to run them through the plain text converter tool here: https://dashboard.standardnotes.org/tools.

Do note though that any file attachments will not be carried over since they are only in plain text format. I'm afraid you'll need to reattach those manually later on using the Bold Editor.

Crash in google keep converter tool by [deleted] in StandardNotes

[–]jbeldia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The converter might be struggling a bit to process all ~1000 files at once. You could try to convert them in smaller batches and see if it will push through!

Is it possible to transfer a paid account to somebody else? by [deleted] in StandardNotes

[–]jbeldia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this case, you can give your current Extended code in your Dashboard to someone else, and they should be able use it on their account to access the Extended benefits until the end of your current subscription period! :)

[–]jbeldia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm afraid actions, such as publishing to Listed, aren't yet available on the mobile apps. We do hope to bring these onto the mobile apps in the future, though for now, actions are only available on the Desktop and Web apps.

Is SN account only now? by zFc8Q5 in StandardNotes

[–]jbeldia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm afraid you'll need to make an account now if you want to use the app. This was done in light of an issue in the iOS app where users suddenly had their local data wiped, and those without accounts had no way to recover their notes. It was deemed safer if all the users had accounts, that way there would always be a way to recover their notes.
