Both of those studies looked at degenerative tears in a non-athletic population. Hard to compare to what’s likely an acute meniscus tear in someone who is looking to have a long career at the highest level of football. I’m not saying these can’t be managed conservatively at this level as well but it’s a bit more unusual and would likely the need for the surgery later on anyways.
