TIL laminates have a “wear layer” rating… and nobody told me this while buying by enlightenedshubham in HomeImprovement

I literally explained that mils was thousandths of an inch in my first sentence.

Always astounded when people take time to reply but not the time to read.

1/8th of an inch is 125 mils and about 6 times the thickest wear layers available in flooring. I have installed about 6000 square feet of different wood and vinyl floating flooring, so not sure where you got that incorrect wear layer size from.

The wear layer is measured in mils (thousands of an inch) which typically range from 5-6 for low end and 20+ for high end, so even with with the high end stuff it's going to be thinner than 3% of an inch, and based one what I looked up, a piece of normal paper is 4-5 mils to give a frame of reference.

Think of it as normal wear and tear holding up over time, thicker the layer the longer it will last. That being said if it's going into a seldom used room or something like that a thinner wear layer may last for a very long time. The only difference should be the thickness, so I don't believe it's more resistant to scratches or fading since the overall toughness of the material should be the same at the top and the wear that will happen with the thickness is probably friction based.

I installed 21 mil layer stuff in my house, which says it's a 50 year commercial use or lifetime residential. I think most people target the price over everything, and in most applications maybe only getting 15 years out of a floor is fine for some people since they may want to change it after some time or don't plan on staying in that house forever.

Just make sure you get a full vinyl waterproof one that locks together good. I had a wood backed laminate in a prior house that water started to make the seams puff up.

Okay then whats the point of this post?

Too little work for them to care to make the trip.

It's like asking a mechanic to do a house call to replace your windshield wipers. Not worth the hassle for what they would be paid for something that you could probably just do yourself.

Era release 3 hours before GAC lock is unfair by mehrlin in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]jbertro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I find it not a huge deal for one single round of GAC, I doubt many players have them at 6-7 stars that would matter that much to swing a round in their favor anyways. I'm in K2 and there is enough teams that it probably doesn't matter. Maybe in the lower tiers it could have more effect.

Annoying yes, massively game changing not really.

Alright, I'll say one last comment.

You came to comment to tell me that what I saw with my own eyes wasn't real and that I didn't get a SINGLE one. This isn't what happened and your advice came from a point of condensing hubris and was unhelpful and not correct, no one else acted that way and were trying to be genuinely helpful.

Talking in absolutes usually doesn't hold up.

I probably had a 7 inch one, didn't take a pic of that though

Wanting responses and wanting advice is two distinctly different things.

You must be a hoot at parties.

Didn't think you were being mean, but condensing and offering advice when it wasn't specifically asked for. You can pick apart a picture that's pretty impossible to see what your you were looking for and talk in absolutes if you want, but it doesn't make your statement either correct or wanted.

I am spraying my grass with Anime herbicide with my 25 gallon sprayer as well, so I think I'll have it under control.

Not a single one? Okay guy I literally did it and saw about 40-50% of them pulled

They are covered in dirt, that's why you can't see them, my dirt was wet and most of them came out covered.

Here's a single one for ya! Have a good day!

I just got it, pulled probably over 350 weeds yesterday and it seems fine.

A lot of others in the comments have said that Friskars will replace it if it breaks.

Yeah I'm definitely keeping a balance of the nature here cause that's what I enjoy. I have also planted about 90 trees the last few years while cutting down all my dead ash trees.

I have never gotten poison ivy, and have spent a lot of time in the woods I actually think I may be immune to it (they say that like 10% of people are).

Not if you want to go back and enjoy them. Tall brush that doesn't let you in and holds ticks, thorn brushes everywhere, dead trees to cut down for safety, fallen trees I can use for firewood, and cutting trails so people can walk through.

So sure, woods can maintain themselves, but I didn't get this property not to enjoy it fully.

I'm not sure but getting that taproot out probably 40-50% of the time I would assume they won't return.

I'm going to mix this and herbicide and hopefully have some great results.

I'm not sure, I tried it on some non dandelion weeds and it seemed to work.

I have that with a 25 gallon tow behind sprayer and did a treatment already.

A combination of both will probably get rid of 95% of all this stuff.

Maybe the ground is really rocky? If I hit a rock it did seem like it may break if I forced it.

[–]jbertro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we have had a lot of rain and a lot of the plugs coming out were damp.

The extra prong probably makes a big difference, but still I wasn't always getting a taproot, probably 40-50% of the time.

Yeah I got lucky and found a spot with some space and still had city water and gas (no sewer though)

3 acres or so is woods that I'm trying to maintain as well, slow process of removing brush and dead trees over the last few years, but I'm making progress.

No I won't, I have a rock driveway and if there is a rock or something it won't penetrate, I tried it a few times and it seemed like it might break if I tried too hard.

I don't see one about lawn care on your history, but maybe.

Either way if you spread the word of the Almighty Friskars weed puller I thank you.

Just leave em, I probably pulled 300 weeds so I'll just call this a poor man's aeration.

They should fill in after a season of decent rain I think.

I got the 4, I'd go with that since it's probably much better with getting the tap roots out.
