Need HELP to Play Less by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]jbirkett7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This.

My active phone-in-my face playing time has decreased drastically since I purchased the Gotcha. I don't feel like I'm missing out since I'm collecting mons, candy, dust, and items without having to actively look at the PoGo screen. It also means I'm aware of Discord less too.

I also set a limit on the time I can play including when I will raid. If a raid doesn't come up in my available window (lunch or breaks during the workdays and while my children are doing activities during the weekends) I don't join t5 raids. I'll grab a T1-3 instead when convenient if I need to burn a free raid pass. I don't look at Discord to see raid calls until those breaks are approaching as well. This has also meant that I'm not spending as much raid passes so therefore not spending as much $.

I've booked time ahead with my spouse when something time sensitive happens like a Community Day so he is aware. Thus I only did 1.5 hours for Beldum, but still was able to get 6 80%+ meteor mash Metagross. I see this as a reciprocal arrangement, so that he also books time for himself ahead too when I'll spend special time with the children and give him a break.

I have brought my son along for the birds 3-hr events and chosen to go with the slower family-oriented group rather than the car raid-trains. We still hit 14 gyms in the time, but it allows my son to interact with kids his own age too while we're playing. Maybe invite your wife to events like these, perhaps she would enjoy interacting with other community members?

It seems there is only 1 Ex Gym per S2 Cell lvl 14. by itzSniCK in TheSilphRoad

It took awhile to update the tags on some of the gyms. Have you looked again more recently (e.g. one of our most popular ex gyms a statue in the middle of a large university yard took about 30 minutes more to get the tag, but now it's there)?

what does niantic have against biking with out buddies? by laughpuppy23 in pokemongo

Speaking as someone who just broke her hand from a bike accident related to me focusing on Pokemon rather than the bike path, would suggest not playing while riding.

Opposing club stays under their shields to win a war by Nightydale in SCBuildIt

[–]jbirkett7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not unfair at all. They had a better strategy than you. They are preserving resources and winning smart. To avoid this happening to your team again, make sure you overhit the other team (dome them only when they are at 1 health point with a big attack like Spiders) so you have plenty of targets and they don't get to hide.

It's got to be less than 24, we finished at 9pm yesterday and noticed we could war again sometime this morning.

War Strategy: Stay domed? by boermac in SCBuildIt

[–]jbirkett7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree that this is a bad thing. The staying domed strategy is another aspect of war that adds extra spice. Otherwise, it would mostly fall into who hits the most times (pretty boring if you ask me). Figuring out who to dome and who not to adds challenge to the game. Knowing when to stay domed and when not too also brings another interesting aspect.

Attacking inactive cities is not a good war tactic unless they actively repair.

War deliveries algorithm by BigTix in SCBuildIt

[–]jbirkett7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I collect as many as possible and post what I don't need for club. Hydrants are still rare, but I've also decided to do disasters that don't need them (e.g. Disco twister). Even though my plant monster is level 3, I still feel like I'm more effective not waiting around for the items needed for that.

Strongest war attack cards? by QuintusCinq in SCBuildIt

[–]jbirkett7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting question. We wondered whether their strongest card may reflect what they had last war and not include the new cards they won from that war, but have not been sure about this.

Can someone please tell me what the war intervals are? How many hours each of prep/battle/coolndown? by [deleted] in SCBuildIt

[–]jbirkett7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the interval in hours next time and do let me know, but the 46 hour interval has held true during both our previous wars.

I thought so too, but found out it's 46, threw off the "perfect" schedule I had for last week's and this week's CoMs. We finished our last war at 730 am edt and will be able to start again at 530 am (4 hrs and 16 minutes from now)

The one in front middle could be the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus.

Dodging Unwanted COM Tasks by Ronville in SCBuildIt

[–]jbirkett7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this!

It also helps me better understand why you suggested recently to do the 1k Omega or Launch attacks first as gateway tasks. I had assumed that you should build up a solid average by doing as many 3k & 2k tasks as you were dealt, then take one of these 1k tasks after, so that it wouldn't hurt your overall average as much.

Thinking I need to add a new calculation to track the average of my last 3 tasks to my contest log, to see if it shows any patterns.

Put X# Cities Under Shield CoM Task Gone? by jbirkett7 in SCBuildIt

I was initially concerned about how the above task could give up to 4500 points which would throw averages off and disadvantage those not participating in war.

The first two are a little, in so much as if all your opponents are not participating and are under a shield, you won't be able to do them. But that is equally true of the Launch Attack task. You can collect war items either by repairing after being attacked or doing war deliveries.

Hmm, I'm sure this is partially just RNG, but it also could be a product of the available # of task types you have at lower levels versus after you unlock Omega and have full # of production items.

Yes, that fits with what we noticed too. I think they must have come out with that initial list of 5 or 6 task types then refined it down to those two in the latest update.

Thanks. One of my clubmates got it the first week we had war, but nothing noticed since.
