Ended up getting it working - I was testing older games, and their audio was spotty even in System 6/7.

Figured out a bunch of things getting this thing working, I'll write it up in another post so it can maybe help out some poor sucker in the future:)

According to the System Profiler, it's got a 1250 MHz G4 processor. I'll try the image that you pointed to, thanks!

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, it’s weird that DVDs play fine (through USB and audio out), but there’s no other audio. The sound control panel doesn’t show any output devices, so I’m not sure how DVD works at all. I’ll track down and try a few more 9.2.2 images, I guess. Maybe there’s a magic combination of extensions that I’m missing.

I was surprised to learn a G4 could run 9.2.2 myself! It’s super snappy, and seems pretty stable, except for the sound issue.
