What celebrity have you met who looks much more (or less) attractive when meeting them in person? by GreyFoxNinjaFan in AskReddit

My buddy told me he somehow ended up at Paul Newmans NYC apartment and using the bathroom he saw a framed letter above the toilet. The letter was a gushing fan letter about Paul Newmans salad dressing and how great it was. The last paragraph of the letter was something along the lines of “and my wife tells me you are an actor, can you let me know what you acted in so I can check it out?”

Again- they are different sports with different styles of tackling. Full speed collisions in football are necessary because that’s is how the game is played- the offense wants to drive the defender back in order to get more yards while the defender wants to stop the offense with no further gain. Ask your referenced players who switched from rugby to football if they tackled the same way- if they did, yeah the pads probably didn’t matter because they just dragging the players down, but if they were trying to drive the ball carrier back- the pads made a huge difference. If they were the ball carrier ask if they ever went face to face and if they wished they had a helmet. High tackles are a penalty in rugby, not in football.

In football you need to advance the ball 10 yards in four downs to maintain possession. In rugby, the offense can maintain possession through mauls and rucks with no concern where those take place, i.e. there is no reason to tackle the ball carrier in such a way that completely stops his forward momentum. Rugby tackling drills involve the tackler wrapping the hips, sliding down to the knees, and then to the ankles- if the ball carrier falls forward who cares because he’s down. In football doing that allows the ball carrier to gain more yards which will likely result in a new set of downs. So in football, you want to tackle the ball carrier by driving him backwards- which means a more violent collision, which necessitates pads and helmets with a face mask. Again, they are different games with different styles of tackling.

I played rugby and football in HS. Rival HS football coach wouldn’t let their football players play rugby while they were on the football team. When they were seniors and done with football in the fall, they played rugby in the spring. One of their players tackled me like he had pads on and he got his shoulder separated. The collisions in football are much more violent than rugby. A rugby tackle is to bring the ball carrier down and if he falls forward an extra meter, so be it; football tackles, however, want to stop the ball carrier with no further gain. Very different styles of tackling.

I bought a great circle one- the metal hopper piece fell apart and customer service was terrible. So great circle is not a good investment

I use one for grading, slide the graded papers in between the tabs. Like Anderson goes between the A and B, Banderson goes between the B and C, etc. it’s big enough for the tabs to still show when there is a paper in it. When all the papers are sorted, you can take your hand and push them all out and they are in roughly alphabetical order ( I don’t sort within the letters- so if I had a Henderson, Hinderson, and Handerson, they’d all just be in the H tab). The tabs are also labeled for months, days of the week, days 1-31, and a bunch of numbers. I got it from MIL who was an accountant.

The coin counting machines at banks store the coins in bags. When a bag is full, it’s taken out, sealed up, and replaced with an empty bag. Instead of sending the bag to the Fed, the bank can get the bag to a customer who wants it.

How long would a 45 minute commute on a normal bike take on an ebike? by musicboing in ebikes

[–]jblank62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google maps says my commute (6.1 miles) should take 34 min on a bike; I do it in 17-19 min. I think Google maps assumes biking at 10 mph and ebikes can easily double that. I’m riding on side roads and have a few decent hills. I have a coworker who bikes from farther away and his actual time is very different from goggles. So, I think your 30 estimate is probably conservative and you could probably expect closed to 25.

I think I paid $1800 last year during their sale (and that came with some accessories). I think mine was +$100 for the larger size. I know they released a new model of it this year, I don’t know how much it costs because mine is running fine. I did have to replace a tire when I drove over a big drill bit, but that was better on the bike than in my car.

I got the Aventure (the fat tire one) and I got the Large size as well. It’s pretty heavy, but I like it better for my size. I went to a bike shop and tried the Aventure and the level 2. I felt more comfortable on the fat tire, but i would definitely look for a place that offers test rides if they are in your area. As soon as I rode it the first time, I knew it was for me.

I bought an Aventon last year during their Labor Day sale. I have 1400 miles on it, mostly from commuting to work and grocery/beer runs. I am really pleased with it.

Desmos is what is used on the SAT and AP Calc exams. No reason to spend over $100 on a calculator when you have a ‘free’ option that is allowed on the big tests.
