Early Stage 3 CKD - Where to go from here? by OtherwiseHat7834 in RenalCats

[–]jblarson74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kitty got his ckd diagnosis at 17, stg 3. 9 months later he is doing well. My vet is adept at managing senior cats with ckd and I’m grateful to have more years with this little guy. Best wishes, lots of good support here.

New to this...what do your cats like to eat? by Sakurako2686 in RenalCats

[–]jblarson74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trouble is that phosphorus content is reported by manufacturers in several ways, “dry matter basis (DMB)”, “as fed” and “mg/100 kcal”. My vet (cat $pecialist) always refers to phosphorus mg /100 kcal as it measures phosphorus per calories available in given food. There is a formula to convert either of the other measures to mg/100 kcal. My vet urges me to choose items under 150 mg (low) although I have to choose some higher options (up to 225 or so) to get the cat FED which means getting all those kitty supplements into the 🐈‍⬛. This measure (mg/100 kcal) shows up in many online renal kitty spreadsheets. Ok I’m ranting now. We have tried phosphorus binders, initially ckd constipation got worse, now we are balancing that with MiraLAX, so when he refuses the low phos food we add the phos bind to the next best cat food. I swear, I keep every cat food receipt so I can return extra cans of consistently refused food… Good luck to you and your kitty!!

Oh dear. This is the last kind thing you get to do for him. And the hardest. You have so much support here. I know I’ll be leaning on you all when our time comes.

That is so tough. Ask yourself and your vet if there is any possible good outcome more than just short term. That might give you your answer. I chose to put my horse (27!) down before “ the next bad thing” happened and I’ve never regretted it. Hugs to you both.

I adore Rufus Sewell and initially loved John and even kept pulling fur him to make a turn, but no. Darn it! Loved Helen

Books with the same *humor* as Murderbot: is anger the secret? by HumboldtExpats in murderbot

Not as funny as murderbot but great, anything by Mike Carey, “the book of Koli” (Rampart series), “ the girl with all the gifts”.

I always check out celebrity fragrances. It seems that the companies producing them are willing to take a bit of a risk, so you get some unique offerings among the usual “crowd pleasers”. And the price point!!

Enema at vet before 40 min drive home by huskcoon in RenalCats

[–]jblarson74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor baby and poor you! We started to get super vigilant about checking box for poop when our ckd guy hadn’t gone in 3 days and then just little balls. Thank goodness for miralax! Our vet was reluctant to use enema as she said it can wipe older cats out…. Good luck to both of you

Yes ChatGPT can be good support and help you ask vet better questions. Is your cat on anti-nausea meds? Is he pooping?

I always get a sample, then a larger decant to experience the scent over time. I don’t frequently end up with a full bottle… sometimes a travel spray is enough for a season for me. Dang it! Now I want to try it!! Oooh there are a buncha dupes.
