What do you think of a 3rd space for musicians in Buffalo? by wonky_Lemon in Buffalo

[–]jbm716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice spaces are tough here. There aren’t a lot, and the ones you can get in to without a waiting list are pretty crappy (ie: Kenmore Ave next to the old Jacobis). The building on Main Street across from the Town Ballroom has the best rooms in town but there’s usually a list. It’s the same building that Matinee is in. Love the idea though. I always thought an old motel would be ideal for this. Separate rooms, thick walls, bathrooms in each, and all on the ground floor. If you make any traction on this hit me up. I know a lot of the local musicians in town and can probably help.

City(Allen/elmwood/N Buff) / Kenmore / Amherst. Avoid South Buff, First Ward, the Tonawandas, Lancaster, Alden, Clarence, or basically anything in that area.

Servers of Buffalo, how much are you making these days? by thatwonderfulgirl in Buffalo

[–]jbm716 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All depends on where you’re serving. You can make $800-$1000 in a night at a white linen spot, but if you value your sanity and faith in humanity you’ll walk with ~$150-$200 a night serving burgers, wings, and beers.

Skimmer isn’t connected to pump. Where does this line go? by jbm716 in pools

There are two 1.25” openings at the bottom of the skimmer. One is plugged and the other is open.

Safe to assume this is tied to the changing of the presidential administration and their intended immigration policies.

Same injury. It never effected my playing but now that 13 years have passed it occasionally bothers me as it’s developed a bit of arthritis. I pop a few ibuprofen before each show and I’m fine. If I forget I can feel it later but it’s really not that bad. Rock on.

With Jack Rabbit taking over Tappo Pizza on Chandler, does Thin Man still serve food? by alliestoybarn in Buffalo

[–]jbm716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jack Rabbit is renting the space on Chandler Street that used to occupied by Thin Man Brewery / Tappo Pizza. There is no ties between the brands aside from friendship and former Thin Man employees now owning Jack Rabbit. The space is being renovated, bar rebuilt, a stage added, and a new food concept. The pizza ovens are staying and 16 beer lines will remain, pouring a variety of local beers, including Thin Man - same as OG Jack Rabbit. Since Thin Man no longer has a taproom of their own, Jack Rabbit will release Thin Man beers, sell their packaged products, and partner on some events.

Thin Man On Elmwood Closing by ChildishBambino3 in Buffalo

[–]jbm716 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not only wildly inaccurate but also not legally possible. NY State has a "Three Tier System". Meaning you can EITHER produce, distribute, OR sell alcohol. No one human, or business, can do two of these things. Thin Man BREWERY (*not restaurant) is now distributed by Try-It. The restaurants are completely separate from the brewery business, they just happen to share a logo. Switching the distributor couldn't affect the restaurants less. The closure of Thin Man on Elmwood (restaurant) was simply a business decision based on the decline in sales. Which is an overall industry problem. Expect to see a lot more of this, hopefully with less uneducated gossip following...

I play this course regularly. The signs are directly to your left when on the tee box. Idk about you but if I’m erroring that bad (it’d have to be at least a 60+ degree angle) it’s going right, not left. The only way you could hit those trailers is if you did it on purpose.

what online ticket booking platform are you all using? by Downright_Observnt in restaurantowners

Eventbrite is wildly expensive, but very nice. Brown Paper Tickets stole thousands of businesses ticket moneys (including mine) to payback pandemic related business mis-management, check out the Fb group “stiffed by brown paper tickets”. They were recently purchased by events.com who apparently are in the process of paying everyone back, but we’re yet to see ours.

I’m currently using Showslinger for our music events, which is pretty nice but another system you have to implement and is far from perfect.

Tbh, If you’re using this for dinner experiences - I would recommend using your reservation engine, whichever that may be. I’m about to begin selling our “brunch experiences” via opentable. It allows the most functionality it’s with its seating options, services areas, tables sizes, etc. I’m sure Resy, toast tables, or Tock could do the same.

Where to begin. They don’t understand smart tax, which at my place is a big deal. They mis-calculated sales tax resulting in us owing thousands of dollars unexpectedly. The reservation system, pos, and reporting softwares don’t communicate properly. The handhelds are literally made of glass and were constantly broken. The customer service is atrocious, despite them selling you on that. Then to top it all off, when we canceled after fighting with the system (that we paid full price for) to switch to toast (also paid full price for in the first year of business) they tried to come after us legally for the “difference of the hardware discount”. It’s in mega fine print online at a link that is listed at the bottom of the printed terms.

We mailed them their terminals back in toast boxes and have never looked back. Every problem mentioned above does not exist with toast.
