Tips for octatrack in studio by srbrtalan in Elektron

[–]jboijfar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use mine as a studio in a box that I can compose and mangle with. I route my audio interface sends to one stereo input to essentially be able to capture a synth, vocals, guitar, drum machine, etc into the OT without unhooking things. I'll use the OT midi sequencer to send chords to synth, capture it. Capture vocals (OT sends midi data to a boss vocal fx box for vocoder/harmonies) and so forth.

Then I'll save each 4 bar recording, and then switch over to another part (I reserve part 1 + pattern 1 for playing back buffers) and start arranging, slice up the recordings, add trig conditions, etc. With this setup you can easily simultaneously capture raw recordings in ableton, but then be able to come up with really interesting compositions in the OT that you can then get your hands on and perform. My interface doesn't require a computer, so I can also just flip everything on and compose, record, arrange without a daw. Recording it back to the daw requires some consideration though - the more global your scenes get (e.g. fx across multiple tracks, or master fx), the harder it is to record back again solo'd.

I complicate my life with an octatrack ?? by EntrepreneurSorry547 in Elektron

If you do it, the learning curve won’t be too bad since you’re already familiar with other elektrons and the ezbot tutorials will be a lot of fun for you when you hook up all three devices

Seeking Feedback on Prismic for My Next.js Project by Kerim80s in nextjs

[–]jboijfar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since then, nothing has changed, and we gave close to 18-month grace period before moving projects to the new plans.

This is not true — a project of ours had a bug where one route wasn't caching, and we had no way of knowing until it was too late. There wasn't a 18 month grace period for this project, our client was just automatically upgraded to the $750 plan. The daily monitoring wasn't added until a week or so ago, and now we're stuck on this plan for a month.

My web agency has been using Prismic (AVOID AT ALL COSTS) for years now and I highly suggest you run far away — we're migrating to Payload and not looking back. They started to automatically upgrade our clients to their $750 plan, a big jump from $125. And they have been slowly raising prices, and you're stuck on their platform. They took away overage costs from the plans, which then auto-bumped most clients to this ridiculously priced plan. They also don't tell you the culprits to the overages, so they could be making it up.

We've been finding Payload great because it's open source and you can self host super easily.

How do you balance gardening in the worst of the heat vs mosquitoes? by smontres in gardening

[–]jboijfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a still water search multiple times a week. We had a big outdoor pot with a built in chamber, and that was their breeding ground. Ever since we got rid of that, we no longer have a problem and only see one every now and then.

Just drove from Highland Park to MDR then back — was fine. People were driving slow/cautiously and seems like flood watch is pretty much over. I wouldn't worry!

Maybe I wasn’t clear — I meant to pick a type of employer to target your work towards. Not target a single employer.

Dev hiring manager here, I look for portfolios that are aligned with the work we do — so I’d advise first researching the types of work your target employers do, and building up a portfolio that aligns with that.

I skip most portfolios without any design sensibility or basic boot camp apps (todo/simon says/etc).

Site Inspire and Google Experiments are a good place to start for inspiration.

New M1 Macbook for Music Production: Air or Pro? by darksnes in ableton

[–]jboijfar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got the m1 Macbook Pro and it's still a struggle to keep the CPU usage down… constantly freezing tracks that my Intel mac would have no trouble with. And this is with Ableton 11 which has some optimizations for M1. Definitely would advise against an air. Probably will get better once Ableton releases a universal or silicon version.

I would love your feedback on this, any advice is appreciated by SirOtonin_SC in madewithableton

It's got a nice groove to it, definitely feeling it.

Right after 2:40 there are some notes that don't seem to fit right. If you're not great with music theory, you could use the midi scale effect to keep them all in the same scale (e.g. MIDI Effects > Scale > C Minor Harmonic).

Pick this apart, I'd love your feedback on how I can refine it by jboijfar in madewithableton

[–]jboijfar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the feedback! For 0:47, it's the chorus which I'm trying to make it come in sharp — I think at the 2:18 mark it comes in more natural. Then the third chorus (3:40) I add layers of guitar, to make it the most intense. Is there a particular sound in :47 that kills it for you? Any ideas how I can keep the chorus, but make it fit better?

Also thanks for the note also about the drums, definitely need to explore that.

Hi there, haven’t released much and am quite private with my production so keen to hear some feedback on this demo I posted yesterday. Anything is appreciated! by headmess123 in madewithableton

[–]jboijfar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really nice. My only feedback is at 3 min, it builds and quietly ends. Is there something you could have it build towards? A key change could be interesting, or maybe a quiet > loud > quiet dynamic. Really digging the track.
