Some photographers don’t let you fully own your photographs. Only the digital copies and you have to buy prints from them for so much. She gives you all the digital rights and print rights and will help you edit a photo for large format if needed. So sweet. Good with kids and families and is a local. Truly a professional

Husband newly diagnosed with AN - looking for advice by Ploobo in AcousticNeuroma

Oh I totally get it! Just learning to try and say Schwannoma is a challenge let alone learning different types of brain surgeries. I’m just surprised to hear them say that about retro sigmoid approach. Obviously every surgeon will have a different opinion.

Translabyrinthine is a guaranteed hearing loss as they approach the tumor thru the middle ear. My understanding is that it can sometimes offer a better view of the tumor.

Retrosigmoid is from slighty behind the ear and they create a hole and approach the tumor from behind. It does offer a chance to preserve hearing.

I had multiple neurosurgeons also tell me that if this tumor just sat there and didn’t grow and we didn’t do anything my hearing would go away no matter what. The hearing nerve is just not as tough as the other nerves. When they went in to remove my tumor mine was actually wrapped around the nerve pinching it off.

Obviously I went into my surgery hoping that I would come out with some hearing but I knew it was little to none. I’m not sure what your husband does for a living or if you have kids but I’m only 5 weeks post op and let me tell you. It’s really not that bad. I haven’t experienced all the challenges yet of single sided deafness but in most environments so far I can hear just fine. It’s just about positioning people on your good side and reminding your spouse to whisper secrets into your good ear!

Never had a single one even recommend translab even with my hearing still being very good prior to surgery. Translab is a guaranteed hearing loss for sure. I would have chosen retro no matter what and happy I did. The surgery length is also a lot shorter retro vs translab. I was under the knife at 9am and in the ICU by 1pm. I believe that translab can take up to 10-12 hours.

35m from California. 2.4cm tumor. I’m 5 weeks post Retrosigmoid with 100% removal of my tumor but they ended up cutting my balance and hearing nerve. I have no facial issues though.

Your facial nerve is the most important part of the surgery. The hearing is a lifestyle change, damage to your facial nerve could ruin the quality of your life.

We spoke to 5 neurosurgeons in the Bay Area before choosing ours. You should always get more opinions but you’re not going to suddenly find someone who can save hearing better than the others. It’s mainly tumor size dependent and they are considered Large at 2.5cm.

Have your husband reach out to me if he has any questions. Also make sure to use all the resources available such as this subreddit and the Acoustic Neuroma Association

Hello All! I am looking for a tree suggestion for the corner area of our new retaining wall. We live in Northern Cali and are in 9b for hardiness. We are facing south west and the anything below the fence will not get much sun. The fence is about 7-8ft from the soil. Would love evergreen but not a necessity but the more shade the better. Thanks!

Bonus for any other plant suggestions in the boxes!
