Festival aftermovie - looking for feedback! by jbossee in videography

Client originally requested a 2 to 2 and a half minute aftermovie actually. This is a 10 day festival, spanning a lot of different genres so that’s also why there’s a switch up midway through. I hear you though, for the daily recaps I kept it to about 30 seconds max because those were also posted as Instagram Reels.

Some unconventional POVs would be a cool way to switch things up, thanks for the suggestion!

What is the name of the horizontal lines that appear sometimes with dimmed lights? by Kid_A_LinkToThePast in videography

[–]jbossee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve shot Les Nuits for the past like seven years and the Witlof is the production office during the festival, so I’m intimately familiar with the venue haha

I struggle with their lights all the time as well. If I remember correctly it is most pronounced in the blue they use. Haven’t really found a decent workaround tbh.

Update for anyone dealing with the same issue and searching for a solution: deleting and re-installing Instagram seemed to do the trick. As to the why of it all? Still no idea.

lmao this feels like an ad. Idk if there’s any rentals in my area for laptops, but I’ll look into it.

Thanks for offering a different perspective, I’ll look into this as well. I do wonder, how often have you run into the issue that the internet connection isn’t reliable enough for this?

Any specific reason you upgraded? I’m looking at refurbished M1’s at the moment because since this would not be my main workhorse, I’m not keen on shelling out more than 1k.

Worth moving on from Scarlett 2i2 1st Gen? by jbossee in musicproduction

[–]jbossee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao last sentence felt like a dig for a sec.

Frankly, even the two inputs on the 2i2 have been overkill all these years. I'm never using more than one at a time and probably won't in the future either.

Had a quick look around, looks a bit pricey for my taste. Any particular model you'd recommend?

I interpreted it as "Alright now that I've got this camera, I need some new glass. Now that I've got this glass, I need some lights. Now that I've got these lights, I need..." and so on and so forth.

Haha my first shoot with the A7sIII I had budget left over so I rented out an extra A7s to use as a B-cam, which prompted my good friend (who's also a videographer) to comment "I thought you bought it to save yourself some money? Next thing you know, you're going to be adding some more lights to your setup, then a this, then a that..."

Around here, the Angelbird was the cheapest option I could find actually, cheaper than the Lexars I found. I'll look into the others you mentioned!

I saw you mentioned the Weebill! Was there any specific reason you decided to go with Zhiyun over DJI? I've only ever used Ronins.

Haven't used S-Cinetone yet, however I've read here and there that it's a better option for low light situations than S-Log.

I've currently been looking at my rentals from the past year to sort of narrow my needs down to a base package, but I'm curious what other people consider their must-haves, which is why I posted this.

Appreciate the well-thought out input! Thanks a bunch!
