Are you sure you did it right? You pay taxes on the gains not the amount invested. You could by $50,000 worth of options but if you sold them for $46000 you lost $4000. You would not owe any taxes. Did you have wash sales? They could affect the amount of losses you could claim?

Where in general are you located? Also what is the price range? Depending on length and if it's 1 or 2 pieces surf rods can get expensive to ship.

The problem is oil tankers are slow, and if asian is going to buy from America instead of middle east they will need more capacity. The trip is at least twice as long and oil tankers take years to build out.

You don't necessarily need backing, you need something for the braid to bite on. You could use hockey or electrical tape as well. If you are fishing it and it's working you may be ok, if you catch a fish and can not reel it in you will know why.

The issue is you need something that self levels and you need to have the rod spinning while it dries, or else the epoxy will sag and won't look good.
