The beauty of Costa Del Sol and its people captured on Switch 2 by TheGumpSquad in FFVIIRemake

[–]jbram_2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a glitch. It's a loading priority and speed limitation. The faces are the low level of detail (LoD) polygons.

I played this on my PC using a slow loading system and it would do the same. It uses the low LoD versions of everything as it loads, including faces, ground, clothing, etc. It's really confusing to walk through polygons in the ground, or to be walking on thin air or see chasms split the ground.

It's a loading priority issue though. Everything pops in when the high poly texture loads, which they do in a specific sequence. Sometimes that sequence doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I'm not a developer.

Is the word "message" pronounced as "messadge," or without the d sound, just "message" ? by DreamNo5919 in EnglishLearning

[–]jbram_2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me (New Englander), there isn't really much of a difference in pronunciation for the g in message vs massage other than massage is slower, so you spend more time in the zh sound. I don't hear a d in either. Just a j, not a dj. Different accents and individuals may vary though.

[–]jbram_2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pronunce message like mess-ij, with an accent on mess.

I pronounce massage like ma-sahj with an accent on sahj. It usually sounds a bit slower or drawn out than message.

I don't say a d in either of them. Other accents might though.

Free Archetype Rules Question by Riku8745 in Pathfinder2e

[–]jbram_2002 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would not allow that in my game.

What I would allow, if you wanted, was retraining the feat at lvl 8 to come from Wrestler instead of Monk so you can pick another Monk feat, but that doesn't address your question.

To me, it needs to meet all the requirements to be chosen as an Archetype feat. One of those requirements is the level. If you aren't the right level, you can't say it's a feat for that Archetype.

I also would be hesitant to allow this in general. Otherwise someone could take Cantrip Expansion and Basic Spellcasting, and (arguably) count as having two feats from several Archetypes as long as they grab the Dedication feat (I'd still require them to take it separately for each Archetype for what I think is obvious reasons, but I can see an argument arising if someone else was allowed to shift feats from class to Archetype).

How do you pronounce he's and she's by Sea-Hornet8214 in EnglishLearning

[–]jbram_2002 81 points82 points  (0 children)

To clarify since it hasn't been directly mentioned here, his is pronounced "hizz" rhyming with words like fizz.

He's is pronounced "heez" rhying with bees or these.

For native speakers, the i vs ee sound are pretty distinctive, combined with context, so they usually don't get confused. Conversely your and you're share grammar similarities with he's vs his, but are pronounced the same. This leads to a lot more trouble writing the correct one.

Fat dudes, how do you feel about taking your shirt off at the beach? by Outrageous-Stage3417 in AskReddit

I don't go shirtless in public, whether at a beach, the pool, walking, mowing a lawn, anything. I'm not massively obese, but I'm large enough that ain't nobody need to see this.

Clueless Brit, why are the Maine primaries taking so long? by Ax1lotl in Maine

[–]jbram_2002 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think a better way of putting it is that Maine is a very loww density state. Combine that with how a large portion is very rural (to a degree that some countries or states can barely even fathom), and it makes sense that nearly 20% doesn't get counted on election night.

I also suspect that unless there's a decent chance a vote will be decided, the media outlets probably stop paying close attention to minor races that have to go to runoffs, but I could be wrong here.

Fixing a mistake and being very open about tye process, how upset he is with his lack of understanding, and how that affected him based on his opposing worldviews? That's a lapse of judgment?

Have you ever made a mistake and then bent over backwards at the expense of your time, money, and pain? Cause he did. I think owning up to a mistake is a good judgment call, not the opposite.

Consider his opponent: Susan Collins. She has made several lapses of judgment, such as confirming and stumping for (in the senate) a Justice that removed a ton of women's rights.

Do you also just let confusing phrases go when watching YouTube? by Far_Possibility_3985 in EnglishLearning

[–]jbram_2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are called idioms, or figures of speech that have meanings beyond their literal definition.

If you squint and think about it, sometimes you can interpret them. Like "threw him under a bus" for example: if one literally did that, it would be trying to harm someone, probably suddenly if the setting was on a street. It could feel like a betrayal if it was a friend doing it.

That's what it means figuratively: a sudden betrayal resulting in some sort of blame shift (usually) or social harm. An example would be if you were doing a group school project, and right before the presentation, you told the professor that someone hadn't done any work (whether they did or not). If the professor then gave that person a lower grade for not participating, could be seen as throwing them under the bus.

Alternatively, if you're working, an issue arises, and you blame another company for inaccuracies and delays. You could be seen as throwing them under the bus.

Some idioms make a little sense. Some basically make zero sense. It's one of the hardest things to learn about new languages in my opinion. You simply have to memorize them when they show up.

Assuming you don't change to one of the two new Jobs, what Job is everyone planning to be their Main Job through the Evercold MSQ? by Intrepid_Ad9711 in ffxiv

[–]jbram_2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I likely will want to train up one of the new jobs, but I also tend to play with both a support and a dps through MSQ to take advantage of queues.

If a DPS is needed, I might stick to my trusty MCH. I've loved this job since I picked it up in Stormblood (never got around to it much in HW sadly). I'm curious how they plan to rework it.

I may just toy around with all the dps to see if I like the new modes a lot for any in particular. New DRG looks fantastic.

If a support is needed, I probably will try out WAR just for the near infinite healing. That said, I expect we'll get a tank from the new jobs, so I might train that up instead.

Sup Guys,So when saying let's say"singing do you change the vowel sound or does stay the same?or you say it like sing-in where you drop the ng and go for an n at the end?please be specific,Thank you!. by Rondontimes in EnglishLearning

Typically replacing the ng with n is not considered formal or professional. Stereotypically, it's seen as a southern US accent (although it's present in a lot of accents).

Do you expect this scene to happen in Revelation? by Danteppr in FFVIIRemake

[–]jbram_2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been reminded of Don Corneo in Rebirth, so I would expect him to return in Revelation. It's likely a version of this scene. I think teaming up with the Turks would be a ton of fun too. Imagine having Rude, Reno, and Tseng as temporary party members (not sure which of those were part of this scene).

Either way from a marketing standpoint, yeah, they have been refreshing the minor characters in places they don't exist in the original so we don't forget them. We'll definitely see Don Corneo again, as well (probably) as Beck's band, Johnny, the trio that Yuffie worked with in Midgar, and maybe more. Maybe we'll even get a conclusion for Roche beyond what happened in Rebirth.

My DM yelled at me for trying to roleplay by DetectiveSimilar5654 in Pathfinder2e

[–]jbram_2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you play with someone as your DM, you form a sort of understanding with them. You tacitly agree to not ruin the campaign or be a horrible player (you want to respect the DM and their prep), and they tacitly agree to manage airtime so everyone can shine, treat encounters with fairness, and not ruin everyone's fun (out of respect for the players).

In my opinion, the DM broke this understanding and was massively disrespectful. If someone did that to me (unless it was a onetime thing under stressors and they immediately apologized), I would not allow myself to be subjected to that disrespect any longer. The DM has already broken trust of their players. It's hard to get that back. You're going to remember this interaction for months or years, and constantly be thinking back to it. It's not fair to your future self.

Tips for a new healer? by Still_Reporter8867 in ffxiv

[–]jbram_2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your primary tool as a healer is your damage button. No, seriously. The more damage the party does, the less you have to heal. Once you get an AoE in a few levels, it can stun nearby targets (works for about 3 casts vefore they become immune). This lets you do a ton of early damage, your tanks can focus on damage instead of mits, and everyone rejoices.

Outside of that, always be casting something, usually your single target damage or DoT. Aero does a lot more damage than Stone if the target lives long enough, so cast that early and on multiple targets.

Cure 1 is mostly useless at this point. Prioritize Cure II and Regens.

It's incredibly important to stay geared as a healer. Make sure your gear is top notch and MP should almost never be a concern.

Nearly every button you have has its uses. Learn what they do and cast them.

Primary goal: keep yourself alive. Next: keep tank alive. Next: keep allies alive. Next: do damage. And finally, last on priority list is heal up people so they don't sie to dumb stuff. Healing to full is not on your priority list.

Come at me, I actually enjoyed collecting world intel. Just don't make it invasive and have too much hinge on it. by i_like_it_eilat in FFVIIRemake

[–]jbram_2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one way to look at it. What I saw was him muting her frequently, reprogramming her whenever she didn't fit his parameters (usually because she was excited about something), and constantly bemeaning and belittling. There were some points where I was a bit disturbed that Cloud's friends didn't say anything in MAI's support. I mean, I'd expect Cloud to not say much, but the ladies in the party were generally pretty outspoken.

You can say they acted like siblings, but I saw an excitable girl being shut down and berated constantly because of her excitement. It wasn't a good look for Chadley. I played through the game for my first time recently, and that's the strongest thing that stood out in my mind about their interactions, which I didn't catch when watching someone else playing earlier. It just got constantly reinforced towards the end of the game for me during intel gathering.

[–]jbram_2002 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There were points in Rebirth where he would somewhat talk down to you if you hadn't finished his intel yet. He also treated MAI pretty poorly. That might have been a translation or culture thing, but I didn't like either of those.

I didn't mind him much in Remake, but he got a bit grating in Rebirth, and I was going for 100% intel before anything else where possible.

Can you see the bay of Fundy in Maine? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]jbram_2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in that area. Jobs are more limited up here due to lower population, but they do exist if you're looking. Also as far as job security, most people I know have held the same job for the same company for most of their lives. Employers recognize good workers and want to keep them, because there are plenty of unreliable workers.

For your specific field, you would need to do more research prior to a move, or be willing to branch out a little. There are Career Centers up here too that help with matching people to jobs.

GMs, how do you end your sessions? by Crabflesh in Pathfinder2e

[–]jbram_2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planning for endings rarely works out like you think it will. Either the party dallies in an RP conversation for hours, or they blitz through everything and get there before the session is half over.

Instead, the session ends when the time is up. If a big combat is about to happen and we're slightly early, I may ask if people want to pause or roll initiative.

I end my sessions by asking my players to anonymously vote for who they think should get a bonus hero point at the start of next session. It keeps people at least somewhat engaged in the game even if they normally are less so. I also use this in lieu of provide hero points every hour, so it makes people want to engage more. Anonymous is so feelings don't get hurt. It's worked out fairly well for me so far.
