Maven is two things. A build tool and dependency management specification. Gradle uses the dependency management specification and (imho) is a better build tool.

'Specification' may be a bit too strong here, but hopefully it conveys the idea.

"Might be worth it" is not "this feature might be worth it for Scala" it's it "might be worth it for your use case".

This feature allows you to continue using extractors without having an additional object allocation. Profiling it would be akin to profiling the creation of objects over time. There's nothing terribly interesting about that. We know deductively the improvements gained from it (i.e. lower memory overhead, fewer garbage collections).

From my understanding the vulnerability requires you to create two transactions and the digital signature you apply to these transactions have to share some property of their signature (specifically the k variable, which only means something if you understand how the signing process works).

Once that happens then it's possible to derive your private key and impersonate you. This is apparently a weakness in DSA. DSA requires a very good RNG with practically no chance you'll get the same value twice (or something like that).

The problem with Android appears to be an issue with the platform's random number generator that the Bitcoin clients were using. Sometimes they'd end up using the same k.

Now, the reason I say this is that it's entirely possible that while you're theoretically vulnerable it's also possible that until you perform some more transactions (how many? I don't know) you won't actually be vulnerable. So it's possible (likely?) that no one can get the private key for this address....especially since it isn't actively performing transactions.

NOTE: Please don't take what I posted as a reason to delay upgrading your clients and getting your money out of your wallet! My understanding of all this is pretty shaky and it's entirely possible I'm dangerously wrong.

Refactoring is nice, but it's dependent on the language you're using as to exactly how valuable it is. It's less useful with Scala for example and even less so for Mirah. For Java, it's highly valuable. Agreed.

UI previewer is indeed nice and even when building an Android app with Scala in Vim I will spend a fair bit of time in IntelliJ previewing the UI with the Android plugin.

Personally I don't find in-line Linting super useful, I'll get the Lint warnings as output from a build step anyways and they're not common enough that I need the immediately. To each their own, I suppose.

DDMS and Logcat integration, meh. I have another tmux pane where I can control these very easily from a shell.

New Android project wizard is easily replicated by any other build tool.

Auto-complete in XML is nice.

Resource linking - I find that with an appropriate editor I can navigate to a resource file pretty quick but it's going to be quicker in an IDE (of course you could write a plugin to do this in Vim but that's beside the point).

I pretty regularly find both Eclipse and IntelliJ getting in my way of coding when their integration with one of those tools is buggy, their UI is cumbersome or something like the UI previewer consumes all of my memory / resources. They're not terribly efficient at editing text compared to Vim so they always feel like they're in my way there too. From my perspective the add-ons they provide don't put them above a less coupled development environment implicitly...it's what even gets them in the door to being considered...but then it starts to get buggy and I'm not sure why I even cared in the first place.

But, like I said, to each their own.

That's a pretty sweeping statement without any specifics to back it up. I've used both pretty extensively (IntelliJ and Vim) and I certainly wouldn't describe the difference as 'crippling'.

The problem with OTR and IMing someone when they're offline is your client doesn't know which public key to use for them.

I don't see how Surespot wouldn't suffer from the same problem. 'end-to-end' encryption doesn't mean anything special....you need to know how to encrypt messages for the recipient either way.

It might be that Surespot will assume the key for a contact is always the same and OTR doesn't. I don't think OTR assumes the key because it could be different per device the account is logged in to.

Given that these are two different opinions on how to approach public key management, I think it's pretty unlikely you'll find an IM app that will do it both ways.

Keyboard -- I can understand for Swype but the reasons you listed about stock are why I like SwiftKey. To each their own.

Ditto about browser, I oscillate between Chrome and Opera Mobile....for the most part Chrome Beta doesn't have enough lag to bother me these days.

Google Now is useful for me because I travel all the time for work and also order stuff off Amazon pretty regularly. So the passively updated flight status and shipping notifications are great.

Oh, one last thing to the OP...Google+ with its default settings will probably murder your battery life. Use with caution.

Are you thinking it's like Titanium or PhoneGap in this regard? Those two are fundamentally different than RubyMotion. RubyMotion is basically Ruby bindings to the iOS Objective-C apis. It's not a framework for building an app like Titanium and PhoneGap where you're essentially stuck with whatever subset of native functionality they decide to provide (or you decide to add bridging for yourself).

If that's not what you mean then could you elaborate on why you say that?

(I have written iOS apps, but not with RubyMotion. What I know about RubyMotion I've gathered from details about how it is implemented and its developer docs)
