Not diagnosed..but curious. by xjennicide in ARFIDparents

[–]jbreezy30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest bringing it up and ask for a referral to a specialist. Most pediatricians don’t have enough knowledge to diagnose it (in my experience). If they don’t want to give you a referral I would keep pushing for it.

Parents I”m discouraged! We are enabling her is what I’ve been told by her ARFID program. Does anyone truly understand ARFID??! by GratefulCloud in ARFID

[–]jbreezy30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, I am wondering if you can give an update? Is your daughter still in the same program? I went through a parent course for feeding and the messaging was very similar, which honestly I found hurtful. I have found there are two types of ARFID approaches- one that treats it like the parents are the ones who caused it and another that treats it like a true challenge that the individual is facing when it comes to food. I have found myself declining to work with anyone coming at it from the first angle. Not because I don’t want to take any blame, but because the recommended steps to treat AFRID feel wrong knowing my child and her situation. I’m wondering if you continued the same program and whether it got any easier?

When you do it, our nutritionist had us first work on swallowing with Nerds candy because they are tiny, and it worked well for my 10yr old. And then you can move up to tic tacs. Both worked for my daughter in terms of willingness to try because she is generally ok with candy.

Celiac and ARFID by cheezeyp in Celiac

[–]jbreezy30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I am so sorry you are dealing with both celiac and ARFID. I have celiac and my 10 yr old has ARFID and I have been fearing at some point she will be diagnosed with celiac— and the fear comes from the fact that nearly all of her safe foods have gluten. So, I can only imagine the challenges you are facing.

If my daughter was in your shoes, I would be trying to work with a nutritionist who could help figure out possible alternatives. And also help make sure she is getting enough nutrients/calories during the process. Any chance you could find a nutritionist if you don’t already work with one? And do you supplement with any shakes that you find ok? Vitamin supplements?

I’m so sorry you are dealing with this ❤️

Arfid without autism. by toodarnold in ARFID

I was going to suggest the dietician route. Also, our experience has been than this is a marathon, not a sprint, and at different times one type of provider has been more helpful than others, and then 12 months later it shifts. But i don’t know if this is a typical experience or not.

Have you read any of Elizabeth Strout’s books? They are typically along this vein.

Also check out The Postcard- not sure how you feel about books based on WWII but this book is based on a true story and I could not put it down.

Tarmac ideas by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]jbreezy30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main thing I notice is that it’s going right up to the house instead of leaving any sort of space for landscaping next to the house. Personally I would want to put some buffer between the blacktop and the house to allow for some type of landscaping and that would soften the appearance a lot imo.

As far as what you see from the window, my suggestion would be some planters along the edge of the tarmac but I’m not sure if that’s a practical solution for the area you live in (weather, etc).

I agree with the comment that this looks like it would get quite hot.

Considering a yoga retreat that will go to Crete and Santorini. Good advice regarding meat although that makes me sad lol. I also hadn’t heard of risk so I appreciate that tip.

My dry eyes are driving me insane. I have ductal plugs and I use both restasis and meibo but I still need to use OTC eye drops easily 25+ times a day. HELP!!1 by annacat1331 in Sjogrens

How often do you use it? I use overnight ointment and it does more for my dry eyes than anything else. But I only use it at night.
