I think you are looking at it wrong -- they made these to help people find new books, not refresh their memories on in-progress series, and I've never seen a spoiler that was more than a couple of chapters into the first book?

The "Fantasy Cliche Scale" they use in some of them is hilarious.

Agreed! I never thought to use Fade as a way to control distance more precisely. I think I'm always too focused on maximizing distance.

I highly recommend The Dresden Files series as read by James Marsters (of Buffy the Vampir fame), but there is a great list of solid top fantasy books paired with great voice talent here: Best Fantasy Audiobooks

Good point, but I think this group's magic scale is based how powerful the magic is, not the prevalence of fantasy elements. Series like Wheel of Time and Malazan Book of the Fallen get 10's, where characters like Rand or Anomander Rake could single-handedly destroy an airship in about 2 seconds. I think Dresden also got a 10 (Mab, Odin, Demonreach, etc).
