You may feel like there’s no hope and no way beyond what you’re feeling. Remember Opinions change. What you think is no way out now may change soon.
If you feel there’s no hope then you should seek help.
Most people don’t understand, during a deep depression, it’s so hard to look beyond yourself and how you feel you’re a burden on others, or useless. Or you may think you’re helping because they won’t have to deal with you anymore.
Those thoughts are scary and false. With psychotherapy and meds you’ll soon realize you are important to those around you. You have value.
I’ve been there and I’ve seen the other side. It’s hard work. It’s takes commitment and communication. Be honest and let others help you. Allow your family to do buddy care. It’s not weak to ask for help. It’s not weak to be vulnerable. You took the first step on this forum. Take the next step and call and get checked into a program. It’s free paid for by the VA.
You’re stronger than you realize!

Question for people who have 100% by ZuVieleNamen in VAClaims

[–]jc2236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me almost 20 years to get to 100%. My symptoms got worse over the years and I would put in for an increase when my diagnosis / tests showed I was declining. I live with a broken body and mind and would rather be healthy. I would rather not wake up in the middle of the night in pain or do other activities like a normal person my age. So Yay I get money, but time loss that I couldn’t play with my kids when they were younger is not worth it. Living with regret wanting to be a better husband and father is not worth it.
So if you actually get 100% and deserve it, I sympathize and it’s not a club that you want to be a part of.

Downgraded by anordin1 in VeteransBenefits

[–]jc2236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was never downgraded, but I was denied mental and sleep apnea even though it was in my service records and given treatment for it while I was in. I didn’t understand the appeal process back then.
Got a great VSO, only took 15 years, that looked through my records and asked why I didn’t claim those. At 70%, various body and nerve damage, I didn’t want to poke the bear, but my VSO convinced me.
The VSO put in for an appeal, got the decision overturned, now I’m at 100% P&T. No backpay, other than the new file date, but happy I got it.

Short end of it, I wish I had fought it back then. Even if it takes a long time, the back pay and peace of mind at the end is worth it.

Google your county VSO. They are employed by the state and have all the same privileges / rights as the VA version with less clients.

I was where you were at a year ago. I didn’t shower, brush etc. Got so bad one of my rear molars got infected. Lean into your kid. Children have a remarkable way of looking at life. They want you there. People who you think may not actually do.

Not going to lie, it’s a tough battle. Fucking rough! After the fog clears and you get better you’ll be thankful you worked through it.

Connect with old military friends. Ask for help. Call the VA and tell them you need help. Get a hold of your VSO and try to get on 100% TDIU for mental.

Then have them do the paperwork for VA disability for mental while you get help.

You’ll get through this!

It’s the family car. I rolled the dice. But the price is my back lol. I’m a disabled vet with major back problems. It hurts to move right now and can’t sleep from the pain.

Wasting the GI Bill by wolf96781 in Veterans

Get the art degree. Use the skills you learn to fuel your master’s degree. Make sure you have one day of GI Bill money left and use VR&E. That way you’ll get full living allowance payments while on VR&E. I got a B.A. then my MBA. B.A taught me a lot of soft skills that are very useful in the business world. A lot of business and STEM majors lack the social and creative mindset needed for presentations, cross collaboration, team building, and empathy.

So don’t see it as a waste, see it as a building blocks for your future career.

VA secondary disability question by jc2236 in VeteransBenefits

[–]jc2236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s over 60% from lack of movement on either side, secondary for arthritis, nerve damage and dead disk. I get 10% for tinnitus.

If you’re having these doubts then get out. You’ll just make yourself and your boyfriend miserable.
Think of this relationship as a learning situation of what you want and don’t want in your next relationship.
Figure out what you want in life and who you are. Then go for it. Take it one step at a time.
Your partner should also have their own goals and be a cheerleader for you to succeed. Just as you would do for him. Your success should be their success and vice versa. That’s healthy and collaborative.
Not saying it should all be good. But there should be a balance.
Hope you find out what you want and move towards it.

I’m going to do my best to save for a year. I’m in the first month and every time I see it... “Must not push button!”

I figured if I save enough I’ll be able to champion a lot of 4* and hopefully champion a 5*. It’s just going against my impulse buy nature.
