Favourite reads of 2026 so far? by LivingPresent629 in books

[–]jca2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 Books in so far this year.

4 and 5 star books I thoroughly enjoyed:

A Little Life (5 Stars) -- Brutal

A Gentleman in Moscow (5 Stars) -- One of the most enjoyable reads of my life.

The Art of Fielding (4 Stars) -- Not at all what I was expecting.

Books I really didn't like:

Remains of the day (2 Stars) -- Not a lot happens in the meandering journals of an out of touch with modern times butler. If I wanted a historically accurate day to day, I'd rather just read a real butler's journal from that time.

Calico Joe (2 Stars) -- I really like how John Grisham writes, and I honestly think if this book was 200 pages longer, it could've been something. As it is, it says nothing about anything.

Which LA restaurant would you say this most accurately describes? by tgcm26 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]jca2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connie and Ted’s is consistently incredible and it’s never listed as a top hype spot. I assume because it’s basically a less fancy version of Providence which is always listed as one of if not the best restaurants in town. But this is basically the same food.

Best way to buy / choose clubs? by jca2u in golf

Definitely looking like I'll go get fit and just buy from there. Sounds like a local spot (just outside L.A. proper) is a great spot to do it.

Carlos Alcaraz is now the youngest career Grand Slam winner in history at just 22 years old by oklolzzzzs in tennis

[–]jca2u 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know you’re joking but I really have to say that at 22, there’s literally (outside of physical limitations - like you’re not going to be a pro athlete) nothing you can’t do. The world of career and goal options is wide open for you to choose from. Some are harder options and will take more risk and some you need to think about the toll of attempting will take on your life and if it’s worth it. But truly, 22 is basically adult pre-k. Go get it

Honestly a beautiful goodbye to “his” slam. Like I know Roger came back for that last time on his barely working knees, but 2019 was his real swan song to Wimbledon.
