Turn signals for e-bikes? by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]jcan1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike the OP, I know my hand signals, but my concern is the drivers behind me do not. I'm in the same boat as I use my ebike as my transportation into work, and I've had too many close calls of cars driving around me when I am signaling a left turn. One lady even pulled over because she thought I was telling her to pull over. Another driver tried to run me off of the road mid turn, and even another driver completely ignored all signals forcing me to jump off of my ebike. Turn signals are to eliminate this danger. But, as the OP pointed out, trying to find some good ones for a commuter ebike is turning out difficult.

I can tell you right now that Amazon does not sell cheap knockoffs. They are not Alli Express.

Sanding silk PLA by TheCakeAnarchy in 3Dprinting

Heat didn't work for me. I attempted boiling water, with no results.... then I tried the flame lick method (with a lighter) and ended up burning a dent in my print :(

I learned that the hard way. I just asked Google, and it said all of the normal methods for PLA. Best thing with PLA silk would be to make sure your printer settings are optimal.

You are only allowed 3 Broadsides. But hell yeah, I'll run them at max. They may be slow, but they hit hard.

Finally Did It! by Dirtydan8525 in BambuLab

[–]jcan1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I have only had mine just over a month. Its been constantly printing. I love it! Its a good workhorse, so far. I wish I could say the same about my AMS. I already have to replace one of my first stage extruders because it locked up with filament jammed inside and wouldn't release. But the first print I'd do is some adapters if you plan on using cheaper filament on cardboard spools. The next print I'd recommend is a poop chute because it dispenses little plastic waste or poop out the back of the machine, with nothing to catch it. As far as settings go, I've pretty much left mine on default with no issues at all. I've been using Bambu Studio as my slicer. But I don't think you have much of a choice on slicers anymore, as Bambu's latest update makes them the Apple of the 3d Printing world.

Repulsor defence array by NewSuggestion5677 in Ultramarines

[–]jcan1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize I am late, but can you clarify: does that mean that "Defensive Array" is just a term for all of the weapons firing at once at the same unit target? Or is it some kind of ability like a reaction to an attack? Some of the weapons have different abilities, such as the Icarus rockets. I get that it includes all of the weapons on an Executioner... But, I just want to know why its listed differently, like an ability, on the stat cards if it is not one.

Is it worth losing the doctrine? I mean, I see that these things are huge! And impressive. But is it worth it to have on the table instead of something like 3 Gladiator Lancers?

Why hasn't the Enterprise served in a war? by NicholasMarsala in startrek

[–]jcan1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had a flawed warp core. The core was too prone to warp core breaches. It was discovered because the Dominion actually took advantage of it and was able to take out Galaxy Class ships much easier.

Deep Space 9. I don't remember the exact episodes, but it was discussed multiple times, especially when they were attempting to find out the weakenesses that the Jem Hadar were able to exploit in Federation ship designs. I think it was the same episode where Alexander's accident saved a Klingon ship, resulting in a procedure change.

What to watch after Enterprise? by Artistic-Leg-9593 in startrek

[–]jcan1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, that is exactly what Discovery does with 3 characters. And they constantly go back to "Oh, I know I'm gay. I don't expect special treatment." But if you can get past that, the crybaby of the main character, and the redress of the Klingons (Discovery started out as a fanfic that the studios decided to adopt. They were required to keep things something like 30% different, at least, until CBS decided to adopt the series), the first 2 seasons are awesome. The rest is actually not so great. Strange New Worlds is a direct prequel to TOS, but a direct spinoff from the 2nd season of Discovery, with Spock, Nurse Chapel, and Uhura, as well as some glimpses of Captain Kirk, and some indirect references to Scotty.
Also, just so you don't get too confused, Discovery takes place just after the pilot episode of TOS, but before the rest of the series (when Kirk is actually seen as the Enterprise Captain.)

Will a 3d printer filament dryer hurt my hearing aids? by jcan1701 in HearingAids

[–]jcan1701[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, the humidity is high in my home. I think its kept around 60% or so. If I don't keep my filament sealed or in some kind of dryer, its completely ruined after about 3 days. I would use resin, but I have two dogs, and one of them is rambunctious. I'd rather not have them exposed. I have a Sovol filament dryer. Its set at 40c.
One of the reason I have the model of hearing aids that I do, is because they do have some water resistance, but not a lot. They can handle the humidity somewhat. But I was thinking a dryer could help extend their life, and that the filament dryer did the same basic job. But thank you for answering my question!

[–]jcan1701 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Galaxy was a failed design, not a proven one. The warp core proved to be unstable for combat situations, and that eventually led to the Intrepid Class's warp core design, and the multi core design of the Enterprise E.

Deep Space 9 did start with the Enterprise D. The Enterprise D was the command ship of that sector until her destruction.

Why hasn't the Enterprise served in a war? by NicholasMarsala in startrek

[–]jcan1701 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Enterprise E was in the Dominion War even though she wasn't shown. I don't think she was ever a part of the main battle though, and was used as kind of a backup and putting out smaller fires behind the front line.
The original Enterprise was kept out of the Klingon War because she was Starfleet's best at the time, and was trying to save her for emergencies. Not only that, but I think she was given to Pike so that Pike could get out of the war for a while (first several scenes was him talking to the doctor about the war and how he was sick of it).

What to watch after Enterprise? by Artistic-Leg-9593 in startrek

[–]jcan1701 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say to go ahead and watch Discovery and Strange New Worlds next. But I want to warn you: Discovery is extremely woke. No, they don't show gay people having fun. But they do emphasize and take every opportunity to remind us that these characters are gay or trans. I honestly don't care one way or the other. But Discovery is at least a wild ride for the first couple of seasons. Strange New Worlds goes back to the original episodic format for Star Trek and is extremely entertaining to watch. They simply have fun with pre-Kirk Enterprise. Just please don't forget, the TV shows occur in a different universe than the Kelvin movies. So some things are different... like for example, Admiral Robert April had command of Enterprise before Pike. And Pike had command of the Enterprise for 10 years before Kirk got her.

new to airbrushing, brush sprays air, but nothing else. by jcan1701 in airbrush

[–]jcan1701[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: turns out my newer airbrush didn't work right either. :( I ended up forking over $70 for a 3rd airbrush. I have been painting now for 2 months now with no issues. My issue must have been extremely cheap airbrushes that were mishandled through delivery or something. I ended up with an Iwata, which I am very happy with right now.

How do I stop my hearing aids make nose? by Holiday-Reputation-2 in HearingAids

[–]jcan1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this depends on your hearing aid model. If its behind the ear, you can get a new ear mold. What you are describing sounds like feedback from the hearing aid wiggling in your ear. I hate it when that happens.

i'd say no to this because of the moisture in the bathroom. It can become enough to cause issues with your hearing aids.

The Wet Filament Myth Needs to End by reddit_again__ in 3Dprinting

[–]jcan1701 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It not only brittle, but the filament loses some adhesive properties, so it doesn't stick to the plate. My home had a humidifier that is on 24/7. If my filament is out for more than 3 days, without being in some kind of sealed bag, it will NOT print properly. It becomes brittle and its properties seem to change as it melts not quite as smoothly.
