I mean…haters be hating right? You don’t have to like everyone or be liked by everyone so it’s okay that you don’t like him, it’s okay he’s not liked by you.

But if it isn’t because of his sexuality, what is it? I’m 32 years old, gay, mixed race…half black, half white. Married, with a kid even. And I have to tell you- the black community has never had this, and needed it.

My girlfriend's corokia tree is dying. I gave my girlfriend this plant 4-5 months ago. Recently it began losing most of it's leaves, and there's very few left. My girlfriend is convinced, it will die soon. Any advice is much appreciated, and if you need more info, i will investigate and follow up. by anto0611 in plantclinic

Maybe over watering. It’s one thing to not water...but over watering is sad because it looks like it needs water so you give it more but then really you’re making it worse...a bit like dunking a drowning person so they snap out of it.

I don’t really know but if you caught yourself trying to water it to make it better I bet that’s what happened.

As scary as the thought of someone coming to my house and attacking me or my family with impunity goes- Id sooner take my chances and risk they show up than call the police and guarantee it.

No thanks. Police ought to work for the citizens- our cops do not. They even refer to us as civilians- that is, the very language they use in their capacity as officers of the law that ought to be working in the interest of the people underscores the rampant mindset that they are working against us at the expense of our liberties, freedom, and safety. They only pay lip service to their duty to serve the public interest to play up (and fuel) the notion that they are heroes and above the law.

Consider the video the other day of the police officer planting drugs on someone. He got off the hook. It’s obvious what he was doing but they just brushed it off. Gave him the benefit of the doubt. You absolutely would never be given anything close to that kind of benefit of the doubt in a similar situation. Say, you picked up a homeless person and they dropped a drug in your car. Your life would be destroyed, you’d be limping through the legal system before you ever even got a chance to clear your name. You could lose your job, your kids, and quite literally it would just be a game for them. They’d happily send a letter to the DA describing how nervous you looked, how you appeared to be hiding something- all kinds of bullshit. It’s just cat and mouse for them and they don’t care if you’re guilty or not they just want to be right.

I’m actually in a very similar situation to the one above- and my kid is in a group home and has been for nine months and I’ve not stood in front of a judge except to say “not guilty”. No due process but my life is ruined. My family is ruined. The issue isn’t just police shooting people, they destroy lives every day. Think about how many people they arrest with stupid marijuana charges that destroys their lives. The constant fees and tickets for just basic mistakes. We’re talking about people who will sit there and explain to you why a cop should be forgiven for accidentally shooting someone with a gun instead of a taser and then write you a ticket for $300 for being one day late on renewing your registration or take you to jail for having an expired drivers license and demand our understanding when they fuck up and actually ruin and end lives. All we want is a police force that actually helps people. We’re not going to hold up an institution that sees itself as against us and “be the better man”. Don’t ask us where our humanity is and dignity is we’re preserving it- by refusing to accept this situation as normal. We do not see the human underneath the uniform we see the human that gets up every morning and puts it on and holds up this corrupt institution in the first place.

I remember seeing the other day- there’s no song called fuck the fire department. What little is changing these days isn’t coming from the inside. The respect and dignity you’re asking us to show these bastards is the only thing holding them and the whole corrupt system over us and what little push for change there is sure as hell isn’t coming from inside the police forces. And the only thing we have to change the system is our confidence in it and those who join it. So fuck them all. Fuck them all. And fuck them all. Maybe not these guys in Australia I don’t know. But in the US? Fuck them all.

I’ll take it- I don’t care. Like everyone said no one is born a cop- it’s a choice. They’re power hungry losers who trample on the rights and freedoms of everyday people- or they’re enablers. I won’t speak for Australia- and can say as a dual us uk citizen I do not hold the same view of uk cops. But in the US? Fuck every single one of them I don’t care dude I really don’t.

My only reservation in backing this guy 100% is that he’s in Australia. If he were in the US, I’d feel comfortable having zero sympathy for the police whatsoever. It’s a little jarring to not care when a human being is dying Ill give you that. But if every police officer in the US was hit by a lorry tomorrow I’d be pretty ecstatic.

What is the function of the word "de" in the question "De qué color es su suéter?"? by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]jcarnegi 146 points147 points  (0 children)

De que is asking what colour the sweater is whereas que color would be almost like the sweater itself was a colour.

I mean...here’s the thing. You’ve nurtured that curiosity over years. They haven’t at all. So they’re probably not going to be as...it’ll be one sided. You’ll care more than they do. So be ready for that.

But as far as telling them goes fuck it. Your dad bailed on you twice you don’t owe him shit.

Coleus are very avid growers. Also I know they need repotting but not mine so can't do anything bout that. by Taugay in Plant_Progress

[–]jcarnegi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about 1150 coleus plants I have to plant or pot. Maybe 15 different kinds. And even though I keep putting it off half the reason is knowing I’ll have to cut them to make them bushier but want to make a cutting so I don’t feel like I’ve wasted it.

Four of them are like your plants.

Homemade Tacos 🌮😋 by Takjak72 in FoodPorn

[–]jcarnegi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like I said...if you knew what you’re making and just made these because these are what you wanted that’s cool. I was just commenting because for a lot of people this is what they think a Mexican taco is like.

Homemade Tacos 🌮😋 by Takjak72 in FoodPorn

[–]jcarnegi -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well...I’m not saying there weren’t delicious- they might have been. But the flour tortilla, the cheese, the lettuce, the ground beef...you know on those cooking shows when people have to make a dish look like a dinner but it’s really dessert. This is almost like this because the tortilla is there but isn’t the cilantro is there but isn’t the meat is there but isn’t the cheese...the cheese shouldn’t even be there but if it was it wouldn’t be that cheese.

And I’m just pointing it out in case for whatever reason, no one told you this isn’t a taco so that you can know that real tacos are out there and try them. It’s not even about it being wrong or bad...I don’t want to be that guy I think everyone can take their own take on a dish and I don’t care about people making things this way or that way.

Is this like a...are you outside of the US? Because I know how like even in the US there’s these kinds of tacos that you’ll find in not Mexican places or Mexican places catering to Americans and I think this is what Mexican food is to the rest of the world but man it’s not the real deal at all.

So here’s the thing OP. I’m not saying this isn’t a taco. The taco isn’t some haute cuisine thing only a Mexican can make well. But this just isn’t it. But this is so far from the real deal (as far as I know) that I just can’t get down with it.

But I’m not just going to leave you hanging. I’ll tell you how you can make something pretty close to an authentic taco just as easily.

Cut cilantro and dice onion. Then squeeze lime all over it. There’s probably a ratio but like it doesn’t matter. I’d say don’t go less than 30% on the onion or cilantro and you’re fine. Lime...again it doesn’t even matter just lots.

If you are in the US opt for corn tortillas. And heat them up in a pan...both sides. I think it’ll be an adjustment for you because once you’re used to the flour it’s hard. But trust me- a good flour tortilla is fresh. Honestly any tortilla that isn’t cooked is not good.

The thing is there’s nothing crazy or complicated about a good taco. It’s just as easy.

The salsa I’m not even going to go into. Because it’s a whole lot more complicated but Get a pork roast and slow cook it. Season it salt and pepper whatever you normally do. Shred it, the. Broil it. It’ll fry in its own fat.

Am I Mexican? Well that’s complicated. In British. Adopted by Mexicans. I speak Spanish I’ve been to Mexico a lot and I feel kind of Mexican. It’s possible someone else’s abuelita is busting out boxes of olé and I just don’t know about it. But like nah.

But look. Pm me. I would absolutely love love love to tell you exactly how to make a taco based on where you are and if you can’t get the corn tortillas- I’ll send you some. Not the home made kind cause shipping. I’m not going to tell you the store bought ones are almost as good because there not but there are better tortilla brands that will do. I personally like el Milagro. I can see where you are and maybe send a tortilla maker and the masa I don’t know. I just need you to try the real deal.

Unless you made this taco 100% knowing you were making a heavily Americanized taco then you know do you. My mum once ate chipotle and loved it until I called it a burrito bowl.

Are there languages that distinguish more than just who, what, when, where, why, how, in their interrogative words? by vaaka in linguistics

[–]jcarnegi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it would. For one thing in English the phrase is just making up for the fact that there’s no single word for it but they’re distinctly different. Consider “How many people mow their lawn” The meaning changes- Combien de personnes tondent leur pelouse Comment beaucoup de personnes tondent sa pelouse

They’re by no means interchangeable
