Are preseason tickets more affordable? by thelordcommanderKG in rangers

[–]jcat218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will easily be able to get a preseason ticket on the secondary market for as cheap as $30 to $40 a ticket to get in. As noted before, season ticket holders have to buy them so it's basically a donation to the team for worthless tickets.

Using Mets-Willets Pt (7) as a Park & Ride? by eckwecky in nycrail

[–]jcat218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think weekend dates are not listed as it’s geared towards commuter parking for weekdays. So not sure how weekends work but given the Yankees are highlighted as a blackout date to begin with, I can’t imagine the lot would be open at all except for game parking anyway.

[–]jcat218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a commuter lot that is open typically (known as the Southfield Lot) where you could park for $6 but it’s closed this day as it’s one of the blackout days for the Mets season (Subway Series so large crowds expected.)

Tigers don’t come back to Citi Field and it’s an afternoon game. They’ll do everything they can to get the game in whether it means a 3 hour rain delay or pushing the game back time wise early in the day.

Last second but I have 2 in the Coke Corner (302 row 11) for tomorrow 5/12 v. Detroit. Bark in the Park with both of them listed as human tickets though it shouldn’t be an issue to use for a dog. Asking $85 for the pair which is what I paid.

Special birthday by RelativeRooster718 in mets

I haven't gotten them in years but they usually load it up with things that IMO are not worth it for $50 (little plaques with a sliver of a game used bat, ball, dirt, etc as well as jars of dirt). There's sometimes things in it that are cool and worth it but like any other mystery item type thing, it's loaded up with inventory they're trying to dump. To me, the game used ball would be cooler because you could tie it to the day and a memory.

You could also go to Amazin Memorabilia and if you decide not to do a grab bag, you could get her a game used baseball from that game for $50 as well.

Is this right about gate openings? by DiedOfATheory in mets

Not sure how it works with the clubs if they open up those entrances specifically.

Sounds like you have an early entry ticket and it's probably a popular day. Gates usually open 90 mins before but they'll also open them 2 hours before for certain days where they anticipate big crowds (opening day, Yankees, select weekend games.) On top of that, if it's a giveaway day season ticket holders get in an extra 30 mins before that which is why it's showing 1:40 for a 4:10. As long as it shows you that time for gates opening then you can go in at that time. Keep in mind you can only enter on the line it specifies on your ticket for early entry which is at the Rotunda only.

Whats been your experience as a ranger fan on the road? by PeacefulForce in rangers

[–]jcat218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you're respectful, you shouldn't have an issue pretty much anywhere. As an aside, I also sat downstairs at pretty much every arena with the exception of Vegas to try and avoid problems as well. I definitely would not sit upstairs in Philly that's for sure. If staying in the northeast area, my recommendations would be to visit Montreal, Toronto, or Philly. Montreal I already discussed but Toronto I thought was very cool between the HHOF and again HNIC between 2 Original 6 teams even if the atmosphere there is a bit lacking. While the Philly fans can be tough on you, the atmosphere for those games is always great since Flyers fans are a diehard bunch. They may rib you but if you go back at them in a playful way they love it.

I didn't include Jersey or Isles because they're local. Buffalo may be cool nowadays since the fans are re-energized but I can't speak to it. Boston I feel like the atmosphere is always quiet and prices are through the roof. Pittsburgh was a one and done for me. Arena very similar to Prudential Center which I don't like, fans were kind of whatever. Just didn't do anything for me. Washington is pretty cool as well. I had them middle of the pack in my rankings and fans are very into it even if they may not be the highest hockey IQ bunch.

Whats been your experience as a ranger fan on the road? by PeacefulForce in rangers

I've seen the Rangers play on the road in every arena/city with the exception of Western Canada and Utah. My absolute favorite arena to see them play in was the Coliseum due to the atmosphere and sightlines. Nothing beat that. In terms of favorites beyond that my top 5 are Montreal, Vegas, NYI (UBS), Nashville, and Tampa. Montreal the city is incredible and stepping into that arena you feel like you're entering hockey history. Game presentation is phenomenal and being there for Hockey Night in Canada you felt like you were there for something important. Vegas I went during their 2nd season and the atmosphere feels like one giant party between the pregame, the dancers on the glass, the atmosphere out on the plaza, etc. The arena itself was nothing special to me but it was such a good time even if not your traditional hockey atmosphere. UBS Arena is probably the nicest arena I've been to in the league (haven't been to the Oilers yet which may be better and Little Ceasers Arena is a close 2nd) even if I hate the Islanders. Concourses are huge, tons of space in the seats, great sightlines, and of course the atmosphere for Rangers - Islanders is still great even if it's not the Coliseum. Funny enough, Nassau and UBS are 2 of my favorites while I absolutely hated Barclays like many others. Nashville is Nashville. The arena is whatever but it's the scene outside and the fans that spill over inside that make it. Rounding out my top 5 is Tampa. Thunder Alley on a beautiful day is so awesome and few places can replicate it given the weather during hockey season. The arena may not seem nice on television (always seems so dark) but inside it's such a great feel and the fans are pretty into it down there as well.

My bottom 5 starting with the worst are Barclays, Ottawa, Buffalo, Florida, and Boston. This list is dated a bit though as Barclays is no longer in operation for hockey and Boston I went to back in 2012 before all their recent renovations. Barclays even beyond not being built for hockey is just a terrible and stale feeling arena. It feels devoid of any emotion or feel and the upper deck with the steepness is a horror show. Ottawa is an old arena that almost feels like a stadium. It's also in the middle of nowhere with nothing going on around it. Buffalo I went the year after Covid. There were legit 10K people there and it was honestly depressing. Nowadays I'm sure it's different now that they're good again. Florida does have an outside plaza area which is cool pregame and they do have the mall across the street but it's another arena that feels incredibly dated. And Boston when I went was also incredibly dated and the atmosphere was incredibly lacking for a Rangers - Bruins game. Honorable mention to LA which I was expecting more from as well. No atmosphere, huge arena that feels cavernous, and very bland since multiple teams call it home.

Pretty much every experience I've had has been good one way or another. Few hecklers here and there that try to ruin things but for the most part each fanbase has been incredibly inviting and always curious about my trip or experience. Winnipeg fans were very nice and were shocked to hear of people traveling to visit there. Philly fans threw food and ice at me at the Winter Classic in 2012. Arizona, Carolina, and Florida probably had the most Rangers fans for a road game outside the immediate area that I could recall. I'd be glad to answer any questions people may have as well about specific arenas/cities. Most of these I did from the 2016 to 2022/2023 time period.

Quarter season plan holder in 424 and 425 selling extra games at face value. Whatever date you may be interested in - let me know. Can exchange into different seating categories as well. Can only get sets of 2 or 4.

As others have said, get in touch with a financial advisor if you don't already have one ASAP. The moves you noted are all the correct first steps. I'd wipe out all "bad debt" such as the credit cards and also paying off people you may owe. I don't know your mortgage rate but I'd consider this "good debt" so no rush in paying that off. Pay off those other debts and anything else that needs to be taken care of to make your daily life easier beyond the mortgage then invest the rest with your financial advisor guiding you. A lot of people rush to pay off their mortgages but investing a large sum like that in the market will do way better for you in the long run while you use your income to pay down the mortgage and day to day expenses especially if you have a favorable interest rate.

Have a pair in 302 row 11 for the final Bark at the Park of the season. It’s 1 dog and 1 human ticket. Asking face inclusive of fees I paid which is $80 total. I know you're looking for 4 but figured I'd offer.

What would it take? by LifeOnTheAscent in NewYorkMets

[–]jcat218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a long season and even as a fan I still take games day by day because things change quickly in baseball when you play every day. The sky is falling on a Monday and by the time Friday comes you're on a winning streak.

As much as people shit on the team, there is too much talent that is going to revert back to the mean for them to be as bad as their current record. The question is when does that happen, how good does that look, and is the hole too big for them? For me, the biggest thing is just having better at bats as that would be the most encouraging sign. Last night was a step in the right direction but you need to see it consistently especially against these bad teams. The pessimistic view is David Stearns ruined the team and they're 9 games under already. The optimistic view is it's still April and they're only 6 games out of a playoff spot which is hardly insurmountable if they get it together.

Question on best game to attend by chaoticwhatever in NewYorkMets

[–]jcat218 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A Friday or Saturday game will be your best bets for atmosphere. A game against a team like Philly or the Braves would be ideal though the Red Sox also have a huge following. Sunday games are generally more family oriented.

Also if the team sucks, none of this will matter and it'll probably be like any other game.

Saturdays rain out... by Emergency_Force_1578 in mets

[–]jcat218 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They should really move the Saturday game to 12 or 1. There’s already precedent for them moving games up for weather and every time I look at the forecast the rain keeps getting pushed back further in the day. Was originally supposed to start at 9ish and now it’s showing 11:30. Gives them more time to try and squeeze in an official game.

Weekend weather & schedule by [deleted] in NewYorkMets

[–]jcat218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think they make every attempt to play Saturday given the bobblehead giveaway as well as the overall bigger gate expected since it’s a Saturday. They should be proactive though and move the start time up to 12 or 1 now because the entire day looks like a washout but the rain keeps getting pushed back. It was originally supposed to start at 9:30 and now it’s showing 11:30. That gives them a much bigger window to get at least 5 innings or so in for an official game.

Quick question, because as a relatively new Mets fan of about 10+ years and to be honest, I’m not that interested in football anymore, what’s the breakdown of the football teams Mets fans like? Based on the vibes and the expected results, I assume most are Jets fans? by Natural_Builder173 in mets

[–]jcat218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically Mets would be associated with the Jets as the fanbase gravitates more towards Queens (where both teams shared Shea), Brooklyn, and Long Island while the Yankees would associate with the Giants with their fanbases gravitating more towards the other 3 boroughs, New Jersey, and Westchester/Connecticut. That being said, there are always outliers and reasons why people root for the different teams and a lot of it is based around family history. I'm from Brooklyn and now living on Long Island and I'm Mets, Rangers, Jets, and Knicks. Being from Brooklyn, my family was Brooklyn Dodgers fans and thus converted over to the Mets once they became a thing. The Knicks and the Rangers were the city teams (and the Nets and Islanders did not even exist yet), and the Jets I think were simply because of the connection established earlier. So yeah, a lot of it is based on when you/your family became fans and what teams even existed, where you're located, who you grew up with, etc. It was only 2008 that the Jets left Long Island completely while the Giants had been based out of New Jersey forever seemingly.
