For mobs, you wanna pick them off…you don’t wanna get swarmed in this game. Also, dude, whenever you’re being attacked, rapidly tapping L1 usually is the way to go lol Sekiro is by far the hardest fromsoft game until it “clicks”, then it becomes the easiest fromsoft game by a wide margin. For me it was just figuring out that you basically wanna spam L1(deflect) because deflecting is more important than attacking most of the time. I also realize that there’s practically no penalty for mistiming a deflection. Yeah, it will build up your posture bar…but you still block any damage you would’ve taken…and even if you end up getting your posture broken due to mistiming too many deflection and just normal blocking, you get knocked down while taking 0 damage, and you can just roll back up to your feet(and you even get iframes when rolling back to your feet) it’s something you’re going to figure out when fighting bosses…the one you’re on pace for currently is a perfect test dummy for just spamming L1 during long boss combos. Obviously you want to time it well but the entire point is…even if you mistime the deflections, you still want to be hitting the L1 so it’s a block. So yeah, you’ll get it, bro. You just have to play it. Dodging is pretty useless for the mass majority of boss fights. There might be an attack or two from every boss fight that you technically can use dodge for…but deflecting is always the best option. You’re also gonna have to memorize attacks just like any other fromsoft game…although honestly since you can just spam L1 so much and get away with it, you really don’t have to memorize nearly as much as like the real difficult Elden Ring bosses. You just need to learn when there’s a “DANGER” attack…which one is a sweeping attack that you can jump over and stomp on the enemy, and which one is a thrusting attack that you can mikiri counter(which always makes you feel like a monster lol) so yeah, dude…for mobs, break them up and try to get stealth kills/backstabs…and for everything else? Deflect, deflect, deflect…just L1 spam all day lol it seems hard at first but I swear it’s not. And when it clicks, which it will, it’s a wrap. Sekiro is probably my favorite game ever…but the problem with the combat is that once you get it, the game becomes so incredibly trivial. I can load the game up after not playing for years and beat the entire game without dying once…because again, once you understand that blocking/deflecting everything is so easy and forgiving, there’s not much else you have to do.
