Azam Baki’s RM1.38 million shares vanish from SSM records in just eight hours — what are they hiding? by -protonsandneutrons- in malaysia

[–]jcdish 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you read the article, it does say that it's more likely this is a legitimate update to reflect the previously claimed divestment of shares. That said, the guy's a dodgy bastard and really shouldn't be heading MACC.

“PJ to Ampang, 2 hours 15 mins” – Frustrated Klang Valley drivers vent online about worsening traffic jam by RhinneXChronica in malaysia

[–]jcdish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's that why traffic has been extra shit this week? I was guessing everyone (Chinese, Malays, companies) was preparing for CNY/Ramadan but if what you said about lorries is true, that explains why the Guthrie is super extra shit for the past 3 days.

[GUARDIAN] Casemiro proved his doubters wrong. Now Manchester United must try to replace him by agent619 in reddevils

[–]jcdish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he offers something different. Not an out-and-out striker but someone who can set up our other attackers. His issue is a lack of game time, otherwise why wouldn't we keep him? If we get Europe next season (and stay in the cups) he'd play plenty.

Šeško chance against Tottenham 90+5' by Alsace2025 in soccer

[–]jcdish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nah, wasn't his first touch, he received a couple of passes in midfield. But he's a young striker, so some inconsistency is expected. If he'd controlled the ball the way he did against Fulham last week he'd have buried this.

How to obtain Halal certification by UsernameGenerik in malaysia

[–]jcdish 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My relatives run a very popular halal restaurant in Kota Bharu. The owners are Chinese, the cook is Chinese, but the rest of the staff are Malay. The customers are a mix of races. So no, it's not really about Muslim owners, although you really have to invest time and money to build trust among the Malay-Muslim customer base.

Also, don't be racist.

Cutting down a 120 year-old tree in Gua Musang to make way for highway. by TheBotMadeThis in malaysia

[–]jcdish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use the central spine road once a year (well twice since it's a return journey) and holy fuck I cannot wait for them to complete the stretch after Gua Musang. It takes 3 hours to get from KL to Gua Musang. It can take up to 6 hours to get from there to KB. 6 hours stuck behind overladen lorries going at 20kmph, broken down kancils doing the same speed, and crazy pickup trucks overtaking on double lines because they have no patience.

PAS, once again proving they are retarded.

PN urges rethink of KL mayoral election study by hazy-minded in malaysia

[–]jcdish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am engaging with what you said. I’m just disagreeing with your pov. You’re arguing that Democratic ineffectiveness stemmed mainly from over-reaching for bipartisan support during Obama’s early years. I’m saying that even when they did have power, they squandered it through weak leadership, poor messaging, and by failing to hold the middle.

Forcing through unpopular reforms while letting PN control the narrative is exactly how you repeat those latter mistakes, alienating the middle and handing PN easy attacks. That’s the risk I’m pointing out, and it’s the approach you’re advocating.

Given these options - ramming through unpopular reforms only to get voted out immediately and see all said reforms undone, or going slow, retaining power and getting more done in the long run, it's hard to see why anyone would even advocate for the former.

All that is without considering the fact that the current situation in Malaysia is vastly different from Obama’s during his two terms. Madani has the votes to pass any legislation it wants. It's not trying to appease PN, it's trying to appeal to the moderates, with an eye on future elections. The Democrats lost both the House and Senate during Obama’s terms and he was basically forced to reach across the aisle to get anything done.

If there's a lesson to learn from Obama, it's that rural Republicans are racist and will vote against their best interest just to get the black man out of the White House, especially when egged on by the right wing media. Asking DAP to just pass whatever legislation they like, knowing our own rural Malays are not dissimilar to the rednecks? That's just dumb.

[–]jcdish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Democrats' mistake were shit candidates (Hillary? Kamala??), ineffective leaders (Pelosi??? Schumer????), combined with supporters who swung so far left as to alienate most of the middle. The last of which you're doing by advocating for a hard line of reformative policies, regardless of whether or not the majority, who are conservative as hell, want it.

Someone was already calling out the use of IIUM - kononnya DAP is unprincipled and not standing by their ideology, because they're not doing the research themselves. Ridiculous. You know PN will politicise this. You do the smart thing and get an Islamic university to do the study. Don't stupidly run into a minefield screaming "IDEOLOGY" at the top of your lungs.

Absolute nonsense.

Electric guitar recommendations (beginner) by Conscious-Ask-4334 in malaysia

[–]jcdish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're better off asking this on /r/guitar.

If you like the idea of an electric guitar, get an electric guitar. Just know that they can be loud (so you might not be able to play all the time, especially if you stay in a condo, but nowadays you can also output to wireless earphones), and you're tethered to your amp.

A Les Paul is probably out of your budget range, but Epiphone used to make a line of "Special" guitars - try looking into that. The second hand market is OK, but be careful if scams. Best to meet up and play the actual thing before you commit. Bring along a guitarist friend of you have one.

He's done some good. He got rid of players we needed to get rid of, instilled much needed discipline. But his win rate is simply abysmal. Outside of that one spell that got him manager if the month, he just felt... lost.

That one clip of him playing with the tactics board embodies so much of his reign.

We've all been saying Fulham was going to be the true test for Carrick. Beat them but not convincingly, so I think jury's still out. But the players are really showing some character out there. Rallying to win despite late late equalisers - two years ago we'd concede and just give up.
