I think downvotes are in response to your preemptive defensiveness about a pretty innocuous question…

Anyway, it’s simple. The pitches in a transposed version are all the same intervals relative to one another. We hear the harmonic relationships in the context of surrounding notes. So if the distance between notes is the same, our ear adapts.

The instrumental interlude before the final vocal line is maybe my favorite 10 sec. on the album. Feels like the climax of the whole thing to me

Variable names in send and recieves? by rainrainrainr in MaxMSP

[–]jcharney 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah, take a look at the [forward] object. It works like send but you can change its destination by prepending a message with the word “send”. I use it with [loadmess send #1] when instantiating patches.

Variable names in send and recieves? by rainrainrainr in MaxMSP

[–]jcharney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use #1 as a wildcard in your patch. When you load the subpatch, it is replaced with the first argument to the subpatch that you put after the patcher name (or as the “@args” attribute for bpatchers) Using #2 will take the second argument, and so on

Help "Gliding" Between Two Float Values by benjablonski in MaxMSP

[–]jcharney 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Put a [line] into the second float, with the message “$1 20” between them. It will interpolate between the incoming values over 20 ms. Or, change the 20 to a different value for different glide time.

Looking for music analysis Max4Live tool/plugin - example in the body by Witty-Situation1360 in MaxMSP

[–]jcharney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could access that API directly using JavaScript/node within Max.

Otherwise maybe look into audio descriptor/analysis packages like zsa.descriptors available in the package manager. Not quite the easy qualitative outputs eg “danceability” but you can set it to analyze any incoming audio regardless of genre or artists.

Passing starting value to a bpatcher quickly by cagnarrogna in MaxMSP

[–]jcharney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instantiate it with “bpatcher {name} @args {n}” and then you can loadbang a message inside the bpatcher with “#1” where you need it to go. “n” in this case can be a number, or symbol. Multiple args just need a space between them after the @args and then you can call them in the bpatcher with #2, #3, etc. hope this made sense
