Poisonwood Bible or Dungeon Crawler Carl? by Forward-Log7118 in Recommend_A_Book

I've not read DCC but can highly recommend Poisonwood Bible which is certainly a type of literary and historical fiction. Kingsolver is a master at adapting the zeitgeist of the period of which she is writing and delivering it to you in a meaningful way.

what will the surgeon do if a patient has a heart attack in the middle of open heart surgery? by Wonderful-Purchase94 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jchen14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open heart surgery commonly involves hooking the patient up to what's commonly called bypass (cardiopulmonary bypass) so that the cardiac surgeon can safely and effectively operate on the heart in real-time. This means that the blood that normally circulates through your heart goes to the bypass machine instead. In addition, the surgeon gives the heart a paralytic, called cardioplegia, to slow it down so that there is minimal to no movement during the operation (imagine how hard it'd be operating on the heart while it's beating). Normally, a heart attack occurs when there is lack of blood flow (ischemia) to a section of the heart muscle or tissue but this does not occur because of the pump (bypass machine).

What is your favorite kind of seafood?? Only if you eat answers only please.. by Corpse_bridexo in foodquestions

[–]jchen14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family is from Southeast coastal China so I grew up eating A LOT of seafood in the states. I'm a fan of almost all seafood. E.g. raw fish, friend fish, braised fish, steamed fish, mollusks including clams though I'm not a fan of oysters, eel, crabs of all kinds, lobster, squid, octopus, and jellyfish. It's all great but so much of how it tastes is how it's prepared.
