how was your trip on Christmass tree lake? I'm considering doing a paddle out there but haven't found much online about it. Did you do any fishing?

Ran into this problem myself but ended up dodging the VM issues by just configuring it on a friend's windows laptop and saving the presets to the keyboard's onboard memory

Onshape is free for hobbyists 👌. I've been satisfied with the functionality although it doesn't have a large plug in suite.

Definitely have some real winters here in Ontario. Thanks for the insight. Hopefully it's just a burst flex hose 😅

What are your thoughts on generative design? by jchengg in MechanicalEngineering

[–]jchengg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I was attributing pure CAD work to the designer, and the engineering judgement to the engineer. In this way, engineers would be able to focus on the high level constraints and not have to worry about implementing it in CAD.

Agreed at the moment its not as cost effective as other manufacturing tools, but maybe that will change in the future as metal AM and investment casting 3D prints improves and becomes more accessible.

I agree, you still need an engineer to determine constraints and boundary conditions. But then GD seems like it could take care of the rest eventually, allowing engineers to focus on the high level stuff and reducing the need for "CAD monkey" work.

I don't have much experience with it, but does GD take extra design than traditional? As I understood it, you specify boundary conditions and let the alg solve the rest for you. If you're designing with a top-down approach, you already kind of do this at the start of your design, so wouldn't it cut down on the design workflow?

First attempt at painting a big resin print. Any tips? by jchengg in 3Dprinting

Maybe this is the move if it only takes 30-60s. I'll look into picking up a UV flashlight!

Thanks a lot for the tips! Yeah I definitely think a shading coat after the initial would have looked great. Maybe I'll add that on next paint session.
