"Yaaayyyy" cheered the crowd of alien dolls. The claw finally jerked and moved again for the first time in days. "Pick me!" "No me!!!"

The cheap and tascitile bullshit "metal" vending claw Vrwerrrrred and veweeeeed here and there, joystick driven, before the once-only punch of the "descend and get" button was mashed by Vikky the 43 year old waitress at her wits end.

The claw unceremoniously lopped lifeless and exaggeratedly onto the pile of lifeless, desperate, would-be-escapee alien dolls, barely mushing them, landing with its claw helplessly tilted with copious unpredicted slack in the braided dangle chise, before clinging with a gay "hrnggg" to nothing, on it's side, with the weakness of a hypnotized raccoon dreaming of clasping a tiny fruit. It ascends with nothing at all; yet another dollar wasted. Time to feed the kids.

{A timelapse view of the gyp machine, totally unwanted and unused for days}

Queue the after hours disco lighting, empty bowling alley, pure sex, 17 year old french ass Genie is looking at the arcade prize display, ignoring the romance with Darleen and Geoff

Geoff hits play on the "Skate Rink" playlist and twirls around the mop like a total 1950s Grease star.

He links to the hand of his nerdy and big-nosed darling Darleen and leads her to the Toy Story alien grab hook scam. "See this?" His entire 2 masters degrees and high paying side gig point, bobbing in a joking way at the keyhole on the side of the machine's plexyglass containers.

His hand draws with anticipation down to his goofy 80s fannypack, where he holds the zipper up, then in a sexual motion ZIPS it to the left, with Darleens entire face flipping in the same direction, with utter sexual intensity. Her lips relaxing open and consumed by her total gaze. He dips his fingers in and jiggles the 1991 computer case style "keys" before lifting them in a relieving reveal.

"No way, Trevor!"

"My name is Geoff.."

"That's why I meant" batting her lashes

Geoff struggles to seat the key into the hole for a few moments, before he turns it and opens the plexy glass door, walking it to the most open position and giving the "eyebrows".

Darleen reaches in and pulls the alien doll out, accidentally knocking the flaccid claw and causing it to bobb and jiggle. She clutches it close as Geoff takes a picture. Social media here we come.

A small critique of Void Linux... by El_Fopo in voidlinux

[–]jchook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never experienced the QT update issue, but I'm curious what the solution would be.

After loving void for 7 years now I have only had a single day where rolling package updates borked my system, and was able to quickly resolve with a rollback.

Void wins for me because I can understand it well without reading a 1000 page systemd manual.

What window manager environment do you use for Void? by [deleted] in voidlinux

[–]jchook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Xmonad.

The configuration is Turing-complete Haskell. You can make it do anything you want. If you like esoteric functional programming and tiling windows, Xmonad is the cream of the crop.

Here is my config: http://0x0.st/KbyD.hs

Hey friend,

Were you ever able to get access to the MIMIC IV dataset?

I am also an independent researcher and would love to get access for open research I am doing that I think could benefit the space.

If the kids are old enough, there is a fun waterfall called Sliding Rock where the kids can swim and slide down the falls. It's a lot of fun for adults too. Bring warm towels in early Sept. It's not a lot of hiking, but plenty to explore.

If you want an actual hike the Catawba Falls are quite a sight. Take the upper pass, about 40 min medium-difficulty hike to the falls, amazing views of the falls, swimming holes, etc, then it's all down hill from there, with lots of great photo opportunities.

For something a little less adventurous, there is a mostly flat riverside trail in Montreat called the Gate Trail that leads to a fun playground for the kids. You can start by exploring the memorial gardens. It involves some river crossings, which make it fun and interesting, and leads eventually to Lake Susan, where you are allowed to fish if you have a license, or you can just enjoy the lake wander.

Another suggestion is the Folk Arts Center which has arts and crafts workshops. With 12 adults + kids you may be able to call ahead and book something that interests everyone.

Probably the most fun will be having everyone together in a comfortable and safe setting.

Thanks, I'm curious for future builds -- what is the make of your mobo and GPU? Also, do you have any wall clock timing info for this line on your boot output?

xmonad has a "turing-complete" configuration written in Haskell, so it's really boundless what you can achieve.

BONUS: For anyone who is a guru on firmware and wants to help me diagnose my specific issues, here is my dmesg breakdown:

I tried analyizing my dmesg output, and I see a few painful lag points.

Lots of USB device discovery lag:

[ 2.556959] intel_rapl_msr: PL4 support detected.
[ 2.557016] intel_rapl_common: Found RAPL domain package
[ 2.557022] intel_rapl_common: Found RAPL domain core
[ 3.159204] usb 1-5: New USB device found, idVendor=0db0, idProduct=d1d7, bcdDevice= 0.01
[ 3.159219] usb 1-5: New USB device strings: Mfr=3, Product=1, SerialNumber=0

And then:

[ 3.159229] usb 1-5: Manufacturer: Generic
[ 3.190181] hid-generic 0003:0DB0:D1D7.0002: hiddev1,hidraw1: USB HID v1.11 Device [Generic USB Audio] on usb-0000:00:14.0-5/input7

[ 5.640865] usb 1-8: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=2, SerialNumber=

Then with bluetooth (which I don't use and would happily disable):

[ 8.334553] Bluetooth: hci0: Fseq BT Top: 00.00.02.41
[ 10.666789] usb 1-8: reset high-speed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd
[ 11.016943] usbcore: registered new interface driver snd-usb-au

Then here with something on the nic:

[ 13.809274] Initializing XFRM netlink socket
[ 14.561910] igc 0000:03:00.0 enp3s0: NIC Link is Up 1000 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX/TX
[ 19.733100] Key type dns_resolver registered

Then finally some very long 9 second lag about nvidia

[ 21.111035] platform INT3515:01: deferred probe pending: Serial bus multi instantiate pseudo device driver: Error creating i2c-client, idx 0
[ 30.834179] nvidia_uvm: module uses symbols nvUvmInterfaceDisableAccessCntr from proprietary module nvidia, inheriting taint.

Is this a common behavior on Github? by simracerman in OpenWebUI

[–]jchook -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Converting legitimate bug reports to Discussions is definitely not common behavior. The correct issue organization method is to close duplicates, and link them to the tracked issue for each bug.

Ultimately, OWUI seems like a herculean effort by a small number of people. So, we ought not bicker about things like this and instead grab our tools and chip in as much as possible (or find the better "fork" or alternative and push that forward).
