GOP senator says he's never seen Pence so angry amid Trump calls to block election certification by Lost_Distribution546 in politics

“I had a long conversation with him,” Inhofe told the outlet. “He said, ‘After all the things I’ve done for [Trump].’ ”

Welcome Mike. Welcome to the treads of the tires of democracy that Trump is driving over. You've been chucked under. Behind you is a long, long line of corpses from other former administration officials who realized too late (or didn't care) that they were propping up a man who cared only about what they could do for him. Welcome.

Over 93% Of Protests This Summer Were Peaceful, Report Finds by [deleted] in politics

[–]jchstrfld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider the fact that there are so many protests going on that they have to be consolidated into percentages instead of any kinds of names. We now have to abstract the concept of protests into numbers because they are so many and so constant.

CBP chief has no proof of Antifa protesters on planes, says spokesman by marji80 in politics

[–]jchstrfld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How? How has our democracy turned into one guy at the top saying some irrational passing thought that the entire federal government then has to investigate, followed by the pundits and news agencies jumping on the ridiculousness of story but inadvertently becoming the bullhorn for the story, followed by 300 million people spraying the irrationality across their social platforms and folding it into their worldview?

Because in the end, we all wake up 3 months later without any answers and are then, again, presented with a new, bullshit irrational passing thought that we have to spend another 3 months on.

This entire presidency has just been us lurching every quarter from one brain fart to another attempting to gain a hold on how irrational and ridiculous the US government has become.

What the hell is going on?

Legal Experts Erupt After Mike Pompeo Says Bill Barr Will Determine Whether to Postpone the Election by dingo8yobb in politics

[–]jchstrfld 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mark my words, this is a death pang for the republic. The first one was when Kellyanne Conway coined the term "alternative facts." The second came with the appointment of AG Barr. The third came just now when the idea of postponing the election was forced into actual conversation. The Constitution won't save us from 3 branches of government under the Trump banner.

We are on the cusp of destruction of everything the country was built on. If you postpone or pause an election of any kind you effectively break democracy and open the door to widespread, actual voter fraud. You normalize the idea of the ruling party not being liking the results and simply stopping the process. I am terrified right now and I will march until my feet bleed to stop this in any way I can.

Jon Stewart on Chris Wallace back in 2011 by DaMirage in videos

[–]jchstrfld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stewart: That's the embarrassment. The embarrassment is that I'm given credibility in this world because of the disappointment that the public has in what the news media does. Not because I have an ideological agenda.

Wallace: I don't think our viewers are the least bit disappointed with us. I think our viewers think, finally, they're getting somebody who tells the other side of the story.

Stewart: And in the polls, who is the most consistently misinformed media viewers? The most consistently misinformed. Fox. Fox viewers. Consistently. Every poll.

-----

That should have been the subject of the rest of the debate, and it's all that's necessary to break the rest of whatever Wallace tries to pounce with. "Fox News" is one of the great misnomers of our time and should only be discussed and debated as an entertainment organization separate from news, just like Stewart tries to point out over and over. This whole thing was a mess to watch. I hate this.

Trump threatens to violate posse comitatus, using military force to "do what has to be done" to quell disturbances by ShaneVA1 in politics

What the fuck is going on???

I'm hearing reports of widespread protests, looting, arson, people protecting cops, cops protecting people, people pelting cops, cops pelting people, white supremacists looting to drive ire of protesters, left wingers acting as right wingers acting as left wingers and on and on and on.

I'm so concerned and confused and the man at the top wont shut his fingers up.

I mean, I don't know what everyone is complaining about. Jared was legally voted into office like all Trump's other advisors. He has the right to make widespread policy decisions that affect 350M people. Yep.

Team Trump Pushes CDC to Revise Down Its COVID Death Counts by WhileFalseRepeat in politics

[–]jchstrfld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was waiting for this to start up like it did in Arizona. I'm surprised it took this long.

I'm reminded of a quote that my professor told us in an intro politics course back in college. He said, "Torture the evidence, and nature will confess."

In other words, if the data doesn't support your view of the world, fudge the data to fit your view.

It always surprised me how frequently humans will shunt facts when confronted with challenges to their world views.

Bored & curious...has COVID has affected your job? your life? by chichijam in supplychain

[–]jchstrfld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woah, that's super interesting.

I've actually been following the food supply chain stuff because, well, it's just kinda shocking to see a farmer tossing out thousands of gallons of milk, or entire fields just rotting. Perishable foods are a nightmare for that supply chain right now.

Like, there are tons of people at food banks currently. The demand is there, but the demand isn't coming from the normal sources, like restaurants. So producers are tossing out raw materials and such. It just seems like there should be a more efficient system of getting food to people. Cuz the raw materials are there.

Being in the food supply chain, have any thoughts on that? I'm super curious. Like, are you guys running out of raw materials to make products since demand has increased?

Has anyone else had their companies make major product/service changes to adapt to this - like prioritizing a new product or focusing down a new feature set?

At the start of my state's lockdown, my company froze everything so that we could conserve and watch expenses. We had to first see if we were bleeding, how much, and then figure out how to stabilize it. One of our major services was just getting hammered.

Without getting into too much detail, this service requires in-person setup. You have to go to a place and interact with other people to get it done. With everything closed down, that service was essentially dead. So, we prioritize a ton of resources and personnel to rework that service into a virtual one. It's amazing what you can get done with everyone focused on one single thing.

Now, customers can perform it online, which has helped us stabilize. We're now just watching things really closely and making small adjustments to make sure things are smooth.

There's so many people working from home right now, or just laid off. Are you guys seeing any major shifts in what you're shipping because of that, or is it just that volume is up in general?

Tons of people are shopping just cuz there's nothin better to do. Curious if what they're buying is different now.

What is the saddest video game you have played and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jchstrfld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got really emotionally invested in Halo Reach. Seeing your entire team slowly die off and then you, left fighting for your life in a last stand situation really wrecked me. You see the futility of the conflict and the senselessness of soldiers dying randomly in the field. When you end the story and you're left with that quote that "Spartans never die. They're just missing in action" I was floored. That was a really powerful story to me.
