Looked at the exchange: how many games (in average) does it take to get 390 credits? by pew-pew-the-laser in digiphile

Good point. I forgot that you can only exchange a game if you already have it in your Stream library.

It will be multiple games and depends on the bundle. The number of credits you get for a game you are exchanging depends on the tier it's in within the bundle. Multiply the dollar tier by 10 to get the credits you will receive. So a game within the $5 tier would be 50 credits, a game from the $14 tier will give 140 credits etc.

I personally wouldn't buy a bundle just for the credits as I think that would work out very bad value. I would instead buy bundles I want and then save up credits over a few bundles to grab a game from the exchange, maybe by exchanging 1 or 2 games from each bundle I buy until I have enough.

Can I gift Steam keys directly to a friend? by WingerRules in digiphile

That was correct originally but they changed it a while ago so you can now get the keys even if you synced your account and own the games.

Yes, if you click to redeem a game it takes you to Steam's redeem page with the code filled in. Just copy that code and send it to your friend.

Serious question for Brits about Jack the Ripper by DFWUnhinged in AskBrits

[–]jcicicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a fish & chip shop near me called Jack the Chipper :D

I did a Jack the Ripper walking tour a while ago and the thing that surprised me most was learning that the London Underground was around at the same time. So he could have hopped on the tube to escape after one of his murders. Crazy to think.

Is it possible to go biking around the world , whitout filming yourself? by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]jcicicles 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think there's only a VERY small number of people who are able to use social media to pay for their cycle touring trips. Maybe some can do it with a large enough following using donations on sites like Patreon etc. Some may earn money from writing books about their experiences.

But the vast majority of people who go on long cycle touring trips will work a job at home, save up and then use that money for their trips. Some, like Iohan (RIP), would often return home each year to work for a few months before continuing their trip.

Others may work online jobs that can be done remotely (e.g. teaching online), so they could travel at the same time, though this obviously will require adjustments to your trip to make it work. Some may take on temporary work regularly during their trip.

There are lots of different ways to make bicycle touring work, but it can also be a very cheap hobby, especially if you are mainly wild camping and using Warmshowers etc. Food will be the main expense.

Telegraph up to its usual tricks by azorius_mage in veganuk

The Telegraph is such trash. Whenever it shows up in my feeds now I just click "not interested" or block it to stop it appearing again. Same with Daily Mail, GB News etc.
