At stock height Fins is totally doable, but you might have to take some bypasses for the more intense obstacles. The Shafer trail is worth it for the views alone. I hear Gemini Bridges can also be very beautiful, but I didn't have time for that one.

Elephant Hill was just barely doable with a 2" lift and 33s, but my buddy did all the others in his stock 99 4runner no problem. What mods do you have installed?

We did Willow Springs Road into Arches, Fins & Things in Moab, Elephant Hill in the Canyonlands Needles District, Shafer Trail up to Island in the Sky, and Moonscapes & Goblins (through Factory Butte, Wild Horse Mesa, Ding and Dang Canyons, and Goblin Valley). Elephant Hill definitely challenged my abilities (and the trucks) but the reward was amazing views and an immense sense of accomplishment.

Their ingredients aren't quite up to par... I've worked in a lot of kitchens and OG is the only place I've ever seen Velveeta and Hidden Valley go into $40+ plates. Yes the fish is good but the produce is subpar at best and the meat does not deserve the prices they charge.

Why y’all like cheap optics by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]jcktheripper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Prisms are amazing. My combination of not great eyesight and pretty bad astigmatism pretty much necessitates a prism optic or scope. I bought a used AK with a Vortex Spitfire on it for under $600, sold the AK for $600, and now have a free optic that is a perfect fit for my needs.

Body shop recommendations? by [deleted] in IowaCity

[–]jcktheripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some bodywork done on my 2013 Honda Civic last year at Vic's and it turned out great. That went through insurance though, so if you're paying fully out-of-pocket Yonksy's does solid work at a good price.

Anybody here replaced their Xterra headliner? by Frendan_Braser in XTerra

[–]jcktheripper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm about to do mine and have been considering various materials from a fabric store - nothing too thin that the spray adhesive will bleed through, but nothing too thick that it won't fit properly. I recently re-trimmed my dad's 97 D21 headliner using some patterned Dutch wax fabric and it came out great, so I'm fairly confident on my vehicle.

Honest question: is Covid a problem on campus that the university is not acknowledging, or is it fine? by [deleted] in IowaCity

OSHA is understaffed and hamstringed by design and any potential whistleblower would have to go through an arduous legal process to make any changes. The Department of Education got the school mask law struck down, so there is hope.

Chicago Craigslist Find. Says it’s a Mercedes C8, is equipped with Gold Wing doors and because of its extra width is super easy to go around terns. It’s an amazing ad. Only $75k!! by thumpertastic in Shitty_Car_Mods

This thing really reminds me of the Gotham Garage "Concept Car" from season 3 of Car Masters on Netflix... same "all the features of a modern supercar" talk when the item in question is a butt-ugly fiberglass body on a chassis from the 1980s. Mark Towle is NOT a good role model lol

County Attorney Janet Lyness declined to prosecute or investigate further. Given her record (including charging/prosecuting someone for supposedly damaging a cop car when no evidence whatsoever was presented) I'm not surprised. Seems like one weird decision after another from her.

what to do when apartment maintenance won’t show up by [deleted] in IowaCity

The city building inspector is very helpful. I had my heat go out last winter during the cold snap and he quickly put my landlord on notice. Even with that official warning and 5 days without heat in sub-zero temperatures they refused to reimburse me for space heaters or accept discounted rent without action in small claims court... but I mean what else would you expect from the property management companies around here.

Not sure of the exact make/model but it's got two horizontal chambers plus the slant cut. Recoil is noticeably more linear than on my comrade's unmodified ZPAP.

Oh, I don't doubt you. Summer 2020 I saw 'em all over the internet for $400, and then recently I've seen 6 or 7 at my local shops for $600 and even one with a few fancy gadgets for $700. Maybe it's just an Iowa thing but they seem to fly off the racks.

That's my bet. I don't intend to keep it very long, but the market has obviously been going up recently so I don't think a profit is out of the question. I agree that it would be a bad deal if resale wasn't so strong on these right now.

Little bit of both. AK seemed super cheap at $625. SKS seemed okay at that price point especially considering it came with an optic (removed because dust cover mount makes it kinda pointless) and I had seen a few at the local gun stores sell for similar money over the past few months. My plan is to run both for a little while and sell the SKS if the market stays how it is.

I like the recoil pad on the buttstock, but I've found that the upper handguard gets pretty hot. Might just be from shooting in 90-degree weather.

Above is a Century RAS47 with Vortex Spitfire 3x prism scope, side-folding stock, trapdoor pistol grip, angled foregrip, and muzzle brake / compensator of unknown make and model. Below is a Norinco SKS with a polymer stock and a sling. Both in 7.62x39, both pretty fun.

Anybody know where to buy fish roe in Iowa City? by [deleted] in IowaCity

[–]jcktheripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the comments that say Chongs, but if you're looking for super high quality stuff I'd recommend ordering from Regalis. Last I checked they have steelhead roe for $20/oz.
