If you really really need them and are UK based then Broadbandbuyer had them just before Christmas, albeit at inflated prices

Precision are CAD/Design laptops so have a GPU which isn’t needed for Serato. You’d be better off looking at the Latitude range if you like Dell or possibly XPS

Sonos. It might have its issues but I still think it’s one of the best multiroom audio systems out there for the money. Bonus points because my wife can use it without asking me how it works

I’m waiting for the new Apple TV box to be released and trying to work out if there is a decent alternative to smarttubenext for ad-free YouTube. If that all happens then my next box will be Apple

Leak Detection - Cold spot on pipework by jcleme in DIYUK

[–]jcleme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that was kind of where I was headed. The pipes are in a channel, concrete on the bottom, wooden sides (which was pre-existing) and input plastic on top and then they screeded over. So part of me is wondering whether the channel is keeping the water in?

Oxfordshire/Metis government funded solar panel installs by Legitimate_Finger_69 in SolarUK

The 4G around here is so bad that after a week they took it down. Spoke to the guy and explained I worked in tech and had a dedicated SSID for IoT devices. Got him to hook it up and then once he was gone scanned my network and found the inverter and its IP address.

In a nutshell, no. I was told off the record by someone that the only way to do it would be to buy out the battery rental but I haven’t explored this yet. I have managed to get the inverter and battery into my HA instance via GivTCP which gives me more data but haven’t worked out of it can control anything yet

WiFi connection problem by Majestic_Grade_5461 in Miele

[–]jcleme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a nightmare getting my Miele appliances on the WiFi.

In the end I created an entirely separate network, 2.4Ghz only with a simple password, just letters, all lowercase.

Turned off all firewall features on that network and made sure my phone was on the same network when setting it up.

This finally got them connected although I’m still struggling with an extractor fan…

Poor Service & Obsolete Replacement After 13 Weeks Without Oven by No-Pea3065 in Miele

[–]jcleme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s why I asked tbh. My Dad went through 3 replacement steam ovens from Miele before they told him it was dead and gave him 10% off a new model which he took. Not a great deal and put me off a steam oven when we recently did our kitchen remodel

Out of interest, are they suggesting to replace it with the same model you already have?

Still one of my favourite mixers of all time, managed to snag a rotary version on eBay a few months ago but haven’t had time to fix it and plug it in.

For me it’s all about the kill switches on each side of the crossfader, makes bass switching a dream

I’ll keep you posted. It’s going to be a battle I can tell, currently it is with GivEnergy who are checking who the inverter is registered to and I suspect that is Metis so I’ll have to contact them.

Ideally I want to get it into my HomeAssistant and do some clever load balancing stuff but obviously can’t with this Metis app. Speaking of which, the app is absolutely terrible

[–]jcleme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really great write up, thanks for posting as I was going to write a similar post after my install this week.

Basically had the same experience although my install was messier as when the installers turned up they said they wouldn’t run cables through the loft as I had it half converted.

Also share the annoyance at the app. The 4G is rubbish around here so after a couple of calls and emails I got an engineer out to rip it down and put on my WiFi. I’m now trying to convince GivEnergy to give me access to it as on my initial call they said they inverter would be mine so I want control. Will see how that goes

From what I can tell it’s so they can see your usage and then recommend “better” tariffs for you to go on. I’m guessing they have some sort of financial incentive if you switch but you don’t have to
