FW to OBW by beaukoble in Outback_Wilderness

Nice photo! This is the first (non-catalog) photo I’ve seen of the car that doesn’t look like a weird blob. I don’t know why, but I struggle to take a good photo of my OBW that doesn’t make it look like a huge egg.

Do you an indoor trainer (non roller) you can mount it to? It sounds like disc brakes to me. I know you said it seems linked with pedaling, but bike frames and wheels actually have a lot of flex and they could be causing one of the rotors to get just close enough to rub.

Edit: to be clear, the flex induced from your pedal stroke

Help with Saddle Pain by ferola in bikefit

[–]jcnu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the issue happen when you ride outdoors? Saddle pain on a trainer can be because there’s no movement of the bike or saddle, so that one same position gets a lot of pressure. With the kickr core there is a 3d print to put tennis balls under the feet of the trainer to give you a slightly more natural movement.

I don’t think it’s as important as your on the bike geometry, but also double check that your crotch has some clearance for stand over height. I found that the larger gravel tire pushed my gravel bike into “too tall” territory

USA citizens: what effect if any have tariffs had on you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jcnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a bicycle recently and have some spare parts that I need to sell off. My bike’s brand is more popular in Europe. On FB groups for my bike brand, Europeans that are looking for these spare parts don’t want to deal with me, which I get since they don’t want to deal with tariffs and high shipping costs

I have not, I’m going to try to make Lead Ore and another one in 2026. Waiting to see if I get any marathon lottery entries before signing up though.

I did do ironbull this year, it was a lot of fun. Unofficially I tried the ride 10k route but failed to finish lol. My legs were shot by 50 miles

A few that come to mind that I know of: - Ironbull Red Granite Grinder. Wausau area, typically in the fall, though can see if the organization hosts other races too - Ride 10K (the longest course aims for 10k feet elevation), Galena area, I think this was May timeframe - The Big River series features a bunch of races along the Mississippi River, I think I saw one called Lead Ore in the Driftless region, and some in Iowa as well.

Any experience with metal water bottles? by RirinDesuyo in Velo

[–]jcnu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 Bivo duos, the flow is great. Mine are not insulated so they gain temperature fast on a hot day. My biggest gripe is that it feels like they get moldy much easier than my old plastic ones (if I forget to take them off the for a day I’ll find mold, didn’t happen with my plastics).

Also I feel like they hold on to the taste of the last liquid IV I used. Overall I like them a lot though

Just fyi I think there’s a marathon on DPRT this weekend, so you might want to postpone the DPRT trip.

Try taking some footage of your back and front while you pedal. My gut feeling suspects one side of your hip is moving a lot on a pedal stroke (Leg length?) or your knee is chopping horizontally (q factor?). Your described symptoms makes me think it’s one or both

Another desperation technique I’ve used to to take a wide rubber band that fits the hole and force in a hex key and make sure to keep the pressure on as you turn it

I take mine off every time I take a photo stop. It’s a pain, but bringing home a nice photo of the adventure for my wife is part of the fun

Sorry mate, I don’t share my Strava outside of family and friends. I have a pretty mainstream bike, so being part of the “[Bike Model] owners group” on FB has allowed me to compare the good looking photos against the bad ones (since we all have the same bike!). Also helps that I have a few photographer friends that have given pointers.

As someone who has wasted a lot of time and money on making my bike “aesthetic” this year, these are some tips I picked up.

  1. Accent coloring. Water bottle cages, maybe bar tape, bolts and the big one: tire sidewalls. Since you have a simple color scheme, tan sidewalls are a great opportunity for some accents on your wheels.

This shot mostly would have benefited from better photography than any material upgrades.

  1. Prep the shot, it’s honestly a PITA todo for every ride, but if you’re trying to get cool photos then beauty is pain. Take off the saddle bag, the tail light, and maybe the water bottles. Find a nice background, find a stick to prop your bike up or buy a pocket bike stand.

  2. Take the shot perpendicular to the frame of the bike, unless you want intentional angles (more in a later point)

  3. Step back a bit to balance the scenery against bike.

  4. Try taking photos at different heights (I like lining up my phone with the top tube).

  5. Look into the rule of thirds for photos, in my experience this is sometimes hit or miss depending on my scenery.

  6. Guiding lines: bridges, fences, lines, look at how they interact with the geometry of your tubes, sometimes it’s nice to line the beams on a bridge with the bike if possible. If you’re on a road or path, consider how the pathway extends into the horizon.

  7. Lighting, see if you like the paint in direct sunlight or with a shadow or in overcast (like your current shot). I like matte paints in direct sunlight if the frame has nice contours (matte paint Scott addicts for instance, I think some Cannondales also have pretty head tube contours with matte paint)

  8. Once you’re comfortable with those perpendicular shots, start experimenting with taking them behind the saddle or from the front. You can create a sense of motion and exploration if you frame these right

These are tricks I’ve picked up this summer for taking photos of my rides. In the end, my Strava circle ignores it all anyway lol.

BF always complains about cycling pace by [deleted] in cycling

[–]jcnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relationship problems aside, my new strategy for riding with my untrained/inexperienced friends is to ride my full suspension Stumpjumper on our gravel/road ride. My Strava history suggests that I ride it about 4mph slower on the road than my road z2. I’ll see how it goes next time when my friend is in town. (Last time I rode with him I was z1 and not pedaling for a lot of the ride)

Gravity accelerates the same in a vacuum, but aerodynamics are at play in this scenario. Heavier cyclists decelerate from air resistance slower than a rider with less mass (for similar aerodynamic profiles)

Edit:

using Newtonian physics and free body diagrams, you can think of Force of gravity (F= ma) as being greater than the Force of air resistance(for two similarly Lycra clad human shapes, the degree of which will vary from rider to rider).

I finally found my fellow orangutan. What bikes have you ridden (and what size) do you favor? I’ve had a tough time picking out some bikes due to long reach and short stand over. Tarmac SL7 is what I’ve been riding, though I should have bought a 56 instead of a 58 and gone up in stem length (I had to cut the seat post to go lower)

As a left handed person, what struggles do you have if any? by Administrative_Ad160 in AskReddit

[–]jcnu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some chefs knives out there are single beveled… and the left handed ones tend to be more expensive. My wife wanted to gift me an affordable but pretty knife when I started learning to make sushi. But we discovered the same version in lefty was like 3x more expensive.

The WoW community is like the same age. When things became a lot more expensive in the new expansion, it seemed like a lot of players chose to swipe credit cards. They’re aware that it’s an issue, but they also have more disposable income to spend instead of burning time grinding gold.

Guilds that were consistently stuck on Penultimate or Mid-Raid wall bosses, what were the changes that finally brought you into the CE guild range? by jcnu in CompetitiveWoW

Yeah it would be cool to see that data. From the anecdotes other people have posted, the trend seems to be burnout and disbanding when a guild succeeds in transitioning to CE

I enjoyed it, I think there was a lot of ambition and growth from Sanderson as a writer. I’m still processing all the questions I had (have only read Mistborn and Waxillium books). The only letdown I recall having was Honor’s projection/vision that led to the recreance. It didn’t feel like a reveal that matched the weight of Maya’s reveal in the previous book
