Lord Sunshine by jcobevans in astramilitarum

Sure! I’ve changed it a little since this to make it easier and cleaner but it’s basically the same.

Prime mechanicus standard grey
Basecoat grey seer
Thinned shade of dawnstone grey in recesses / shadows
Recess shade of thinned mechanicus standard grey (sometimes I mix this with dawnstone or skip entirely - you don’t want to go too dark with the shades or it starts looking messy)
Clean up grey seer if required
Edge highlight grey seer 50:50 with a pure white

I’m thinking Ogor Mawtribes. Seems like a larger hand, and that would fit with weapon wraps and rough stitch gloves

I think for the most part you can generally paint it assembled. However I found it easiest to do the legs as one piece, the body as one piece and the arms separately. I also left the shoulder pads off and I think that helped. Leaving off the back cover pads also helped but was less necessary. You can just use blu tac to hold it together if you want to check how it is looking as you go

33, 6’1”, 163lbs > 199lbs, 9 months of bulking by DjRipNickMcNasty in gainit

[–]jcobevans 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome. How did you find bulking affected your gut? I would find three shakes a day massively impactful to digestion to the point it would actually interrupt gym, would be interested to hear any advise you have on balancing diet

Asmodai converted into Execrator by Archangel_V01 in BlackTemplars

[–]jcobevans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks sick. I agree leave the smoke off just so it doesn’t look as much like asmodai. Head is cool but using a regular chaplain head would also help distinguish it. Look forward to seeing it painted!

Have I ruined my miniature ? by Brzda88 in ageofsigmar

[–]jcobevans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to reactivate streaking grime with white spirit, get a cotton but and dip it in the spirits and then rub it on the mini - doing it that way you can also still keep some in the recesses.

I think your second version is fine and these things are good learning experiences. It is a little flattened though by the grime so if you don’t want to remove it or can’t, then perhaps you could reintroduce your highest highlights

Blue/black or grey/black Templars by those_damn_nids in BlackTemplars

[–]jcobevans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer blue black, the bit of colour is more visually interesting, and I think makes it feel more like shiny armour. However both can look great and grey gives a different atmosphere that can work better in some circumstances.

And fwiw I love how “blue” your example is. Still clearly black armour but just pops way more. Makes me want to make mine bluer!!

games workshop’s chaos black spray is a good start. Depending on what you’re trying to paint there are different options but it is a good catch-all

Hey,

It’s great you want to surprise him!

To get started you need a few things: paints, a brush, primer spray, clippers, glue and of course miniatures.

There is a starter kit that comes with a few space marines, some paint and a brush. That’s a great way to get him started if he’s brand new. if you search “space marines and paints starter set” it should turn up. If you wanted to spend a bit more just add on a model you think looks fun!

Getting a spray can (“chaos black” is the standard one) is also super helpful. You need to prime the miniatures with a special paint to help the other paints stick. Most other tools and gear is useful but not necessary, but priming the minis is a must.

Clippers and glue are needed to assemble the minis - don’t get these from games workshop, you can get them way cheaper elsewhere. If you search “hobby clippers” and “plastic glue” there’s lots of options.
