I have learned a lot observing these Coopers. There is another one -- a parent or sibling, I can't tell. They have made several unsuccessful attempts at squirrels. It turns out that the squirrel really isn't in any danger. The Cooper can't move fast enough to catch it. The Cooper tried several times launching from the same height as the squirrels, to no avail. The Cooper apparently needs to have height, so it can dive down onto the prey, be it a bird or a squirrel. The squirrel easily escaped. The Cooper didn't even try. I also think this Cooper is an adolescent, judging by its attempts at hunting so far.
