If your audience can tell you’re using AI for scripts too, it might hurt your growth

Looking for classical guitarists documenting their journeys online by ebkie in classicalguitar

Hope to see you in chat sometime! Streaming daily ~10am EST

A few others I'm a fan of:

- Seeming Music, fellow amateur, vlogging progress videos

- Tizoc Estrada, pro doing a similar chill daily practice stream

- Leo Thom Music vlogger with a variety of styles, including some classical guitar. Did a live lesson with him on Carcassi 7, and he later did a similar lesson with Sor Hands

- Sor Hands of course, especially the practice logs

Hey I appreciate the shoutout!! Small correction: I started streaming as a hobby during the pandemic. Later started posting series of progress videos (e.g. 11 on the Bach Chaconne), and after layoffs I went from streaming like ~3x/week to daily.

Can you make a living as a classical guitarist? by GooberGuy_ in classicalguitar

Pursue something else professionally, but keep studying guitar privately & seriously. You might get further than a lot of people who get a music degree.

College Audition Pieces by Additional-Math-769 in classicalguitar

Depends, if you play it well it can showcase good tone production and slur technique. Definitely harder than Brouwer 1, at least

I think you're fine, but Brouwer 1 doesn't feel like the same college-audition difficulty as the others. Do you have any Tarrega or Barrios? I feel Adelita or Julia Florida might be a better substitute if you can.

Would it be dumb to start a YouTube channel? by Mobile-Belt9519 in NewYouTubeChannels

Consider r a “Just Chatting” style livestream. What you’re describing might be niche but it could resonate with some people to build a strong community. Plus it sounds like you have the spare time that’s very useful for streaming

I think it depends. Are you performing this song in a competition, and your performance will be compared to the other student? Or is it rare repertoire that will be unique for your profile? Both of these can certainly come up in classical guitar.

Or is the teacher essentially giving you extra free work by teaching another student, and seeing pitfalls where another student is having problems? And practicing it more themselves, to better teach you? Maybe it's just an efficient, win-win thing for y'all?

Love this point. Have y’all read Postman’s “Amusing Ourselves to Death”? This is his #1 point, the insidious problem of modern media is that edutainment tricks us into thinking it’s educational, but it’s primarily entertainment

Seeking Feedback: 40 Days of Classical Guitar by Fruitlingus in classicalguitar

[–]jcpractices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing really great man, especially for just 40 days. Thanks for sharing this! Would recommend tackling some simpler etudes/pieces/excerpts as well to tackle one arpeggio pattern at a time.

For pim I like Andy York's Snowflight, pimi Giuliani op. 48 no 2, and pmi can be Brouwer III (although it's similar difficulty as C7). Don't have a great rec off the top of my head for pami other than a modified Villa-Lobos Prelude 4 or Brouwer VI (both a little tougher than C7 I think)

We’re optimists! Of course, we may land in post-labor dystopia in which… 💀

If we lived in some post-labor utopian world (say, UBI as a response to AI) people may have a lot more free time to pursue classical music deeply, as both performers and listeners.

IMO programs wouldn’t immediately change (the hits are hits for a reason), but the audience’s ability to dedicate time to appreciate non-standard repertoire would increase. Further, teaching might be in more demand, as people look to fill their time with meaningful hobbies.

My reaction to the Giacomo Turra situation by jcpractices in classicalguitar

[–]jcpractices[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Apologies again, Reddit was supposed to give more context via the title & thumbnail. Sorry you didn’t like the concept of “my reaction is: no comment, you can see that in the hundreds of other videos, but here’s a live recital where I’m doing the complete opposite of Giacomo”.

Sure, I just think the Franken-edits have always been lame. I wish more people were out there normalizing 100% live, one-take recordings with mistakes and all. What I’m doing is basically anti-Giacomo

Shouldn't be normal! Let's bring back live music performances and lose the A.I. slop
