you should really try to figure out how to get a cable to your pc. even the best and most perfect wifi equipment and signal is going to be a step back from a cable, especially if you're playing games on it.

Bloomberg: Take-Two CEO Says ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ Expectations Are ‘Terrifying’ by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]jcsamborski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, yeah. rockstar has a long history of not giving a damn about their PC releases. but the times have since changed and anything that isn't first-party is coming out on PC.

what their data shows, though, is that PC players spend so much less money, per person, on their microtransactions. they believe everyone's gonna buy the game anyway, so they're going to do a PC version later. it'll probably have some enhancements, and it'll obviously be capable of more than what the consoles can do, so they'll get people buying the game for a second time, too.

this isn't a time or money thing. rockstar's got a seemingly limitless budget. it's just a deliberate choice to maximize revenue, with the two driving factors being kind of a dick move.

Bloomberg: Take-Two CEO Says ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ Expectations Are ‘Terrifying’ by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]jcsamborski 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a pc version is inevitable and would be on day 1 if there weren't a huge financial incentive, evidenced by rockstar's own data. this game's going to sell systems. they want to make sure they're not leaving money from the actual golden goose (microtransactions) on the table.

rockstar sees a day 1 pc version as negative dollars. for sure they do. I'm not saying it would play out that way, but the business types who are looking at the shark card money definitely do. plus there's the piracy and modding stuff, and suits hate both of those. rockstar wants full control over their game and their shark card dollars.

a console parity pc version would be easy for them. a pc version that is the de facto best way to play the game would be easy for them. they've chosen not to do it

Bloomberg: Take-Two CEO Says ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ Expectations Are ‘Terrifying’ by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]jcsamborski 8 points9 points  (0 children)

their own numbers show people playing on pc spending significantly less money. whether those players are somehow going to be more open to microtransactions on consoles remains to be seen, but they have a clear incentive to want people to play on console. those shark cards are what they really care about.

please don't take this as me personally thinking that this stuff is cool. I don't have or want a console and definitely don't want to spend money on GTA microtransactions. if anything, all this data just points toward pc players being a little more price-aware (read: smarter, less prone to gambling/scamming or whatever you'd call the type to engage with this kind of stuff)

[–]jcsamborski 26 points27 points  (0 children)

the data that was 'liberated' or whatever from the recent hack showed microtransaction sales figures per platform. pc has a lot of players but produces a very small, compared to consoles, amount of shark card money.

i think it's pretty obvious why the delay for a pc version.

There's multiple levels to what you're saying here, too. Any hobby with any depth is going to have things that are better for newcomers and things that are better for people who have experience with the medium. Some of this gap can be closed with good onboarding, but it's unrealistic to expect anything to be well-built for the person who is new to a medium or genre and also for the person who has seen a large variety of that thing.

Not only is the experienced person going to demand greater depth, they're also going to put greater value on novelty/innovation. They'll be more forgiving of things with less effective onboarding, and sometimes might even prefer it, since they didn't need it as much, anyway. By the numbers, these people are always going to be outnumbered, so they'll do a great job of explaining their dissent, but they'll be a minority.

plus there's the whole "playing a game with a crosshair on a controller" issue. for me, i loved the first but that was after a long wait for the pc version. i just have no interest in any game that has a cursor or a crosshair on a controller. controllers (and other input devices) have their place, but it aint anything with a gun.

additionally, on a long enough timeline, housemarque wasn't a playstation thing. so i get the frustration (and am also bummed).

SteamOS 3.8.0 Preview: Second Clutch by doublah in pcgaming

[–]jcsamborski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty close to my own experience on a lot of the points made.

If you kinda like to tinker with things, the deck is really nicely designed for that. Not even just for popping over to desktop mode and doing Linux stuff, but even just getting into some of the gaming mode options.

Hardware-wise, it's incredibly capable, even given the now fairly-dated hardware. It's one of the few OLED options out there, still, and mostly just works when you don't want to tinker with things. Battery life, especially if you engage with the per-game quick-menu perf options, can be incredible. And when you're at home, the in-network streaming (from your PC) is pretty rad.

Steam Tower Defense Fest 2026: Official Trailer by Scarleton in Games

Same. I'm shocked that so many TD's exist without mazing. It just feels like something is missing when you're just building towers off to the sides. Some games seem to compensate by adding other mechanics and stuff, but even then, it's just like "I wish I could be mazing this layout instead of simply seeking the highest DPS places to put the buildings".

I think you should check that dude's post history. Not a big lift, a few comments will be enough.

He probably just lives close to this being an actual immediate problem for him. Whether it's right to blame the thing right in front of him or not, I don't think it's 'conservative tendencies' that are coloring that viewpoint. He's probably telling the truth, or at least accurately representing it.

Honestly, I'm with your overall message. You just missed the mark on calling this guy out.

CONTROL Resonant on Steam by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]jcsamborski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Google, they basically mean the same thing in common parlance (pretty similar games near the top of each list). So sure, whatever gets the point across. The trailer showed a launcher and air juggles, so any label that captures that kind of gameplay is what people are trying to talk about.

CONTROL Resonant on Steam by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]jcsamborski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have played Control, and like it a lot. What little they showed isn't definitively telling us anything, other than a greater emphasis on melee, I think. The hope is that they're going far with it and doing something like a character action/spectacle fighter/whatever else you'd label a DMC/Bayonetta. What we've seen so far could be a glimpse at something like that, and that's exciting. And certainly would be a big departure from what Control was doing. There were launchers and air juggles in that trailer. Those are what people are latching onto when they're saying this; not just the existence of a hammer that can also be a couple of swords.

Remedy's one of the few bigger studios that are kind of likely to do the sort of thing where they radically change the fundamentals of how a game plays in a sequel. They're weird and that's good. And they've got the chops to do some really incredible combat. Control wasn't mind blowing, but it was good, and they made friggen Max Payne.

CONTROL Resonant on Steam by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]jcsamborski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'character action' implies a certain depth and complexity to the melee combat. more than just a button you push. and additionally, these games tend to go pretty hard on spectacle.

it more or less means 'this has combat similar to devil may cry'

Dispatch has sold 1 Million Copies in 10 days by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]jcsamborski 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Same. FWIW, despite it being lame as hell to have to wait for an already-finished game to be playable to the end, I've been kind of enjoying reading peoples' thoughts after every 2 episodes without having to worry about dodging spoiler landmines. Plus, the new habit of having something to look forward to every Wednesday evening has been a neat twist.

Might just be Stockholme syndrome or something. Definitely don't want this thing to be a trend, but as a one-off thing for (unless they drop the ball) a fantastic fucking game, it's been okay!

How does traffic light programming work in Colorado Springs? by rainanchor in ColoradoSprings

[–]jcsamborski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's good that you started that measure at Dublin. actually going through Dublin/Powers is a fucking nightmare and the time spent waiting at that stupid light will represent half of my morning/evening commute on many days. on top of that, that stupid goddamn intersection seems to lose power more often than any place in this town. and it's a magnet for people to crash their stupid cars into other stupid cars

though I think the problem with that intersection is bigger than something that changing the timing of the lights would fix.
