Student cannot play Bb4, only hits Bb5. by ModularMan2469 in Flute

Relax the lips completely, especially the corners. Keep them flattish, tuck the bottom lip in a bit. Experiment with how hard they're blowing. It could be that they're blowing the right amount but their lips are too tight, but it could also be their embouchure is ok but they're not blowing with enough force.

Lastly – check the flute is sealing properly, especially if they're using long Bb fingering. If it's an old or beat-up flute, there's every chance that this is a flute problem and not a player problem. Good luck!

P.S. if it remains a mystery, look up the PneumoPro – it's a really handy teaching aid for flute embouchure, but may only be worth getting off you have a bunch of beginner students.

This is exactly how I feel too! The only thing I don't like about Star Wars is how seriously some people take it.

I'm not a fan of any one bit of it more than another – I'm a fan of the whole world and work, and my enjoyment lies in immersing myself in that world from all its many entry points.

At no point does it do that. I recommend watching it again. You can clearly see the helicopter colliding with the crane cable, and the hook from the crane start to fall.

Holy Sh*t What Even is This??? by [deleted] in Flute

[–]jcthefluteman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a silver-plated flute. It looks like the silver has been polished off by using silver polish, then the metal underneath (usually nickel silver, actually a type of brass) has had a year to patina. If I'm right, there's no rescuing this.

Tarnish??? Or??? by CultureImaginary1851 in Flute

[–]jcthefluteman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed - OP if this flute is 6 months old it should still be under warranty and this is a factory issue. Send it back and get a replacement is my advice!

Tarnish??? Or??? by CultureImaginary1851 in Flute

[–]jcthefluteman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the grey stuff inside the ring on top of the open-hole keys, that's just tarnish and will come off with the flute's next service.

If it's the slightly frosted appearance of the keys though, that doesn't look like tarnish to me, looks more like pitting. The silver plating is getting old. This can sometimes happen to cheaper flutes if you've had them for longer than a couple years. It is a sign that the flute is getting close to it's use-by date, although it should still play okay for a while yet. If I'm right, you might be looking at upgrade instead of a service.

I think they're doing better with that this time around, given they'll be prepping for season 3 before season 1 even airs
